RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
Won`t matter, the Philips are famous for rejecting discs :/
As are the mustek`s etc.
Basically, each manufacturer will only recommend their own brand or one type of disc.
eg: a customer recently told me on their (I think) Mustek machine, after speaking to the manufacturer helpline, that "1 type of Packard Bell +r disc will work fine, but the other won`t"
When she asked how to identify which ones were which, the "helpline" had no idea how to tell the difference!
The only way you can *guarantee* a disc working in it is to use Philips own, as you then have a comeback with Philips if they don`t.
Although, pretty sure Phellings et al will let ya know what they had most success with :)

RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
David, I have had a DVDR70 since the end of march and it works fine for me, I have recorded a 100 plus of the BULKPAQ 4x speed DVD+R 25 pack (tub). . IF you are having problems with lots of discs, mabe the machine is faulty. I must admit I have`nt upgraded the firmware, under the `what works don`t fix` banner.
Below is my experience with disc`s in the DVDR70.
TDK DVD+RW 1-4x. Just the one disc I ordered with the recorder so I had something to record on.
VERBATIM 4x certified DVD+RW. I have about six of these for day to day recordings. £1.39p each.
VERBATIM 4x certified DVD+R. Had about five of these. £0.99p each. Only reason for not buying any more was I use the below for +R disc`s.
BULKPAQ 4x speed DVD+R 25 pack (tub). I`ve used around 100 of these so far with 2 going coaster on me. This happened early on and both times I had just put in a long, and I mean LONG disc name. Stopped doing that and no more coasters. Now Price dropped to £5.98 for 25. THAT`S 24p a disc, I like that. Better that £9-£14 for 3 in a supermarket!!
The Verbatim and Bulkpaq disc`s came from SVP Communication www.svp.co.uk, delivery was £4.99 for 2/3 day delivery by courier (Interlink Express).
NO connection with them other than spending my money with them!

RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
i have heard that bulkpaq DVD+4B1 discs which we are using should not be used in set top box dvd recorders anyone know why?
RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
I belive you get what you pay for. For me Bulkpaq means coasters and verbatim means quality, time after time. The more expensive discs have better protection meaning your recordings will be safer for longer.
RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
Since I swapped my Philips DVDR880 for a DVDR75, I`ve had no problems with any discs, including some very cheap and cheerful Mirror DVD+R discs (well maybe one out of about 50). I`m currently using Infiniti discs bought from Jessops. I think I paid under £20 for a 25 disc box. No problems so far. I know you can buy cheaper on line, but I thought that was a decent price for the High Street.
UPDATE: Just bought a 25 pack Infiniti DVD+Rs for £9.99 from Jessops. The price label said £19.99, but it scanned at £9.99. Woopee. It`s always worth asking Jessops to scan the price, as they change so rapidly.

I would like to know that myself. I did`nt download it on the grounds `Don`t mess with what`s working fine`. But would be very interested to know what it does.

RE: WHAT BRAND OF DISCS SHOULD I USE FOR PHILIPS DVDR70
Got this back from Philips today:
Issues resolved by new DVDR software version 6.3 (Firmware update)
-DVDR+ discs After updating to 6.3 DVDR (All models)
-Audio Distortion on some CD/MP3/DVD (only for DVDR70/DVDR75 and
DVDR80)
-Set hangs up during VCD/SVCD playback when changing night mode on/off
(only for DVDR70/DVDR77 and DVDR615)
Problems resolved already with the current Release 6.2:
-Fast Forward 8X has been improved.
4x speed DVDR+/RW+ are accepted for recording
-Accepts PC based DVD+VR discs.
-Safe Record implemented for Timer Programming
- Copy once implemented correctly (that means that the COPY PROT
issue for copies of analogue recordings is solved)
- Numeric keys on remote control changed to alphanumeric function for
making disc titles easier.
-Playback on some commercial DVD discs improved.
Well I`ve installed it and so far everything seems fine, took about 10mins to install, switched itself off a few times then back on then said Downloading, Reading,Downloading, then ejected the Disc and that was that, Installed,,,
I`ve recorded a few things off the TV and all seems fine... :)
