Mini DV or Micro MV if you can afford it....or even one of the new DVDR models :)
Digital 8 is only ok if you need to transfer old 8mm stuff.

Why is Digital 8 preferable for tranfering old 8mm stuff?.

Is iLink the same as Firewire?
yup...don`t let the posh Sony terminology fool ya!!
£25 for an "i-link" cable from the Sony Centre.......
£8 for a firewire cable from an independent computer shop :D
which camcorder you gonna get then Ascom??
Note:- not all Digital 8 camcorders will allow you to transfer old
8mm stuff.....
btw, you got mail ;)
Ste.
...is that gasoline I smell?

Hey, Ste.
Just got the e-mail...sent you a reply! To be honest, I`m tempted by the Sony you recommended; I don`t want to be spending a fortune. Some have suggested Mini Dv though! :/

iLink, Firewire, IEEE1394 and DV are all the same thing.
Just usually different connecting plugs :)
Digital 8 in some cases can playback old 8mm recordings, but as said above, not all.
I now always stick with Mini DV. Cheap, easy and decent quality.
