Philips DVDR70 - Error Message D8032A9C4

I bought a Philips DVDR70 DVD Recorder 3 days ago - it recorded find and when I used Videoplus it recorded fine. Today I had programmed some recordings with Videoplus - the first one recorded fine, the second recorded about two minutes and then left an error message displayed on the front of "D8032A9C4". I`ve tried recording directly, switching disks but it always records for about a minute and then leaves that message on the front. I searched Philips website and tried Google and haven`t seen D8032A9C4 anywhere.

I could return the machine for a refund (I`m tempted after seeing all the really bad things written about Philips DVD Recorders). Could anyone tell me what D8032A9C4 means, please?

No idea what D8032A9C4 means - although I suspect any message in the display basically means "I`m f**ked". Before you parcel it up, try a cold reset - unplug it for ten minutes, then plug it back in holding down the standby and eject buttons. It`ll completely start from fresh setting the stations, etc. It should work then. Get yourself a spike eliminator from Argos (like the one you should be using on your computer as well, as it`s either static or a power spike that`s messed it up.

If you got it from somewhere with a no quibble refund policy (like Argos), don`t bother, just get your money back. ;)

Just to give an update - I phoned Philips support and told them about the error message. The person replied, "Oh that means there`s a hardware problem - you`ll just have to return it to your dealer. How old is your machine?"

"Three days", I said.

"Three days?" - He seemed surprised but from what I gather with Philips products he shouldn`t have been surprised at the unreliability.

"What does D8032A9C4 mean?", I asked.

"Dunno - some sort of error code." (Well I had kind of gathered that.)

"Don`t you have some sort of index you can look up which tells you what that code means".

"Nope."

I thanked him for his time.

And no I won`t be doing any kind of reset or further fiddling. The Philips was returned and I promptly went out and bought a Sharp VCR which will do me nicely for the next few years until DVD Recorders improve...

Just like to add that I bought my DVDR70 from RIchersounds last Wednesday, it seemed to record OK for the first two programmes, but then started to stop recording 5 - 30 minutes in.

At first I used to get an error very similiar to the one listed above (in the the same), but now it just starts to records and after about 3 - 4 minutes I now get the error message "NO SIGNAL". Although the DVD stays on until the end of the timer, it only records upto the message "NO SIGNAL".

It does this when trying to record from the aerial or direct from my NTL STB (both composite and RGB settings).

I have tried the reset (power off and then on holding down the powerbutton) and reseting everything but this does solve the problem :(

I have also spokne to Philips `technical` who like the last post offer no technical help at all, except to say that the unit is probably faulty and to return to shop!!

WIll be taking back the recorder back to Richer Sounds on Friday and hopefully try a replacement first, as I am impressed with the quality and the ease of use.

Instead of wasting money on a vcr,and having read about the unreliability of Philips dvd recorders,it would have been better to actually buy a reliable make in the first place.There are no problems with most dvd recorders,only Philips.Don`t let their shoddy product prevent you from enjoying the technology now-buy a Pioneer or Panasonic

I`ve got a Philips R75, a replacement for a dead R890.....I along with several guys in my office have bought Philips ans have had trouble with them. A Shame as the +R/RW format is very easy to use with good quality, and high compatibility rates. But the hardware problems ARE a bit of a nightmare.
Being just a Freeview watcher I`ve gone for a Humax 8000T PVR, swapped in a 120gb drive making the Philips pretty redundant....I`ve even piggy backed a Toshiba SD340E on top of the Philips as my main DVD player! The Philips is really only used to record Camcorder stuff these days.

Hi there,

I have just bought the same machine and about 40 mins in when recording get exactly same message D8032A9C4 - it just stops and displays this message. Any ideas or do I have a faulty machine?

a little brutal perhaps, but almost certainly correct :( phillips may have invented the system but they can`t seem to get the hardware to work properly :/ even the cheap chinese +r/+rw clones seem to offer much better quality, and better bang for buck.

i`m biased tho :) my panny`s never let me down in 3 years ;) as phellings say`s, cut you`re losses and save you`re time, get a panny or pioneer.
