Grundig GDV520 subwoofer problem

bigroot (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 8th April 2001, 15:20

Hi there, I recently bought a grundig gdv520 home cinema kit which i am happy with apart from a strange noise coming from the subwoofer, during a quiet spot in a film the subwoofer seems to go into standby mode, there is a led on the back of the box which goes from yellow to red.
While the led is changing colour, a process taking 5 seconds or so a strange electrical noise comes from it and then stops once the led has changed to red.
Its bloody annoying, every time there is a lenghty dilogue section in a film I hear this noise.
Anyone have any ideas, comments before i lug the thing back to the shop??

TIA bigroot
took subwoofer back to shop today, they have it on test, it will be interesting to see what excuses they come up with.

This might not be relevant to you but....... I had loads of bother with a Monitor Audio sub recently (which I had to return eventually). Turned out to be a problem with noisy mains (leccy) supply. Try plugging the DVD etc into the same plug bar as your telly and DVD if possible as this can help.

hive tried plugging it in all over the house using different audio sources and different cables, same results.
I have left it back at the shop to see what they come up with.

I`ve had the exact same problem with the sub - woofer. I have e-mailed Grundig directly about it and they referred me back to dixons, which considering the knowledgde of the average spotty freak who works in dixons was about as much use as a chocolate f***ing poker. My dad also has the same set-up, and funnily enough the same problem so we`ve kinda resigned ourselves to the fact that there is bugger all that can be done about it, however, if you have taken it back to the store, I`d be interested to know if they have done anything about it.
Cheers for the Dinosaur tip too, although i`d never see myself buying that film, but there are a few Bond films that don`t work too. And as for CDR`s, I got a big big big load of `adult themed movies` from a chap I wok with but as they were on cdr - none of the buggers worked!!! Had to resort back to paper ladies that night.

Hi all, the guy in the repair shop agreed with me that the subwoofer made a strange noise as did all the other ones in the shop and there was nothing i could do,so to cut a long story short, I got a full refund from currys and want to richer sounds instead.take a look in the retailer reviews for a longer explanation.
