DVD-RAM more proof. Just lend it out because more people have DVD-RAM recorders.

DVD-RAM the best...as I`v always said.

The RAM Leap
What makes DVD-RAM`s leap over the +RW and -RW formats so surprising is that, at least for PC users in the United States, the format has acquired the image of an also-ran. Even some of the DVD-CD combo drives that drew excitement last year support only +RW and -RW formats.

But when it comes to drives in set-top boxes that people attach to their TVs instead of installing into their computers, DVD-RAM is the market leader. And its popularity is greater outside the United States. It`s the "most popular format in Japan right now," says Rich D`Ambrise, director of technology for Maxell America.

There are reasons for its popularity--despite its compatibility problems with many DVD movie players and generally higher media prices. DVD-RAM is more robust than the +RW and -RW formats. It protects the integrity of your data with tricks normally associated with hard drives, such as marking off bad sectors. And it`s more rewriteable: DVD-RAM discs are rated as capable of 100,000 rewrites, compared to 1000 for its two competing rewritable formats.
But no one has ever called it a speed demon.

Don`t really understand the point in your post ,paull, unless you are just looking to cause another argument on this point?

Phelings is forever telling me I make these things up in spite of posting many sites showing DVD-RAM to be the dominant home DVD-Recording medium. He also asks about the reliability of RAM when I compare R/W to DVD-RAM, thus I`ve just provided more proof that it is I who is giving out the facts. DVD-RAM is increasingly being used in more & more applications.

Well,Paull ,its about time you actually gave some evidence to support your point of view. However,if you check out the other thread we were arguing on,I actually stated that there were more set top boxes sold worldwide with RAM on than any other format,so you are telling me I was right thanks.I stand by my other 2 points-that RAM would not sell at all if it were not paired with -R,and figures are helped by zero STB presence in Japan of DVD+.
Don`t forget, only Panasonic now offer RAM machines without a compatible optiont too.So all those JVC and Toshiba machines I recommend all have RAM,along with -RW.
Your post still shows that you have not yet grasped that I slag off Panasonic for not offering a -RW option.I recommend not getting RAM only machines due to incompatibility, which is not an opinion, its fact.
Your post still fails to explain how those lucky RAM recorder owners stuck with a Panny, are going to play their discs on their PS2,Xbox,or any of the hundreds of player models which do not support RAM

Panasonic recorders use the DVD-RAM media as a small Hard Drive. With it`s superior qualities, a Panny user can have virtually one DVD-RAM disk and use it for the life of the recorder and use all the features of the recorder. It`s not meant to be shared. If sharing is wanted, the Panny uses the DVD-R media, which is the most compatable media.

A lot of users have no need for a hard drive, nor, want to pay the price for a recorder with a Hard Drive. Hard Drives are also the weakest part of a device when it comes to failures.

IMHO!

You Panny fanboys just don`t listen.
Why are Panasonic alone in the world of RAM in not adding -RW for sharing. Its Panny who are pants-not RAM
