E55 - Recording widescreen programmes

Nick Foster (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 10th November 2004, 13:05

I transferred a programme from my Sky+ box onto DVD-R last night on my new E55. The programme was broadcast in widescreen and when recorded onto the DVD-R played back in widescreen as expected.

The problem is that when the disc was finalised the DVD-V now has no flag to tell the TV the programme is widescreen and it plays back as a 4:3 picture with everyone looking really tall and skinny! :(

Have I missed something or is this always going to happen?

Cheers,
Nick

Hi

I dont own the models you mention but on my setup if recording from a settop box and its widescreen and i want it to be compatable for all tv screen shapes i select 4.3 for the box output then record and i find it will play as widescreen or 4.3 without being odd looking. My tv is not auto switching but i had problems watching any recordings on a 4.3 screen.

It may not fix your recording but may be worth trying for future recordings.

bye

The E55 records in 4:3 format
If you`re playing back on the same TV as you recorded from it should playback without any format problems and should look exactly as you recorded it.
If you play it back on another TV you may have to manually change the format to suit.
