Help with 4KUS DVR230

kayf (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 27th November 2004, 20:00

I recently bought a dvr230 from asda and also ordered some imation 4x dvd+rw 4.7gb 120min discs from amazon.co.uk
I insert one of these discs and get "preparing" then "reading" then "fail"
i read in the manual that discs need to be erased before use. although this wasnt true with the free dvd+rw i got withit or the 5 DVD+R`s that i bought from asda when i bought the dvr230 but i tried it anyway and i thought it was working until it stopped at 84% for a while then went ti 87% then said FAIL. this happened while trying 3 different discs.
It seems only these imation discs dont work and i bought 25 of them! they are definitely +RW`s so that isnt the problem
can anybody help me?!?!

i would say it`s almost certainly the disc`s, unfortunatly dvd recording on set top boxes is still in it`s infancy especially the non-phillips +r/rw stuff, try and take the discs back & swap em for another brand.

EDIT=& +r`s are a right once media, so you don`t need to erase them, just stick em in and they "should" work

general nobody @ www.dvdreviewer.co.uk and now www.x-disk.com/viewforum.php?f=41 for all things X-BOX

Hi

I just bought one of the DVR230`s as well.

I also bought a 3 pack of the Maxell +RW 120`s that Asda sell.

No problems at all formatting these, each took less than a minute with no coasters, and I have recorded successfully and completely wiped it and re-recorded on it.

DVD recorders and drives can be fussy on what media you put in them, I`ve always found that it`s best to only buy a couple from an untried manufacturer and prove them first before buying a fistfull.

As more becomes known about this player, I guess the list of suitable media will widen.

I haven`t tried any +R`s yet as I`ve only ever used -R`s on my PC drive - guess it will be a trip to the shops tomorrow for some Arita +R`s which I swear by on my pioneer drive on my PC.......but I will only buy one to try.

In terms of the recorder itself, I`ve only had it a couple of hours, but the quality of recording from a freeview box is stunning compared to the Sony VHS recorder it has now replaced.
