Goodmans GDVD300R - Video Plus query and Default Recording Quality

Having finally decided to buy the Goodmans 300R that I posted in the Bargain Bucket section a while back, I have a few questions which I hope someone can help me with. I will start with the easiest.

1. I went through the various settings and set the default recording quality to LP. Now, I would assume that all recordings would use this default setting unless I specifically change it. However, whenever I program the timer, it defaults to the HQ setting. Is there a way around this?

2. The next question is to do with the video+ mode. If I program my video using video+, I just enter the relevant code and it works out the date, time and channel. However, with the Goodmans, after entering the video+ number, you then have to enter the channel number as well. Same question as above. Is there a way around this?

3. Now the tricky one. Am using the recorder to transfer lots of old video stuff to disk, but want to edit it on the PC to create a nice menu, and then write to DVD-R. On one DVD+RW disk I recorded a 2 hour session and a 1 hour session, and on another disk I recorded 3 one hour sessions, all of which create the exact same file structure (VTS_01_1 to VTS_01_5 and VTS_02_1 to VTS_02_5). When I try to import either of the _4 or _5 files into DVDlab, the timecodes are screwed up and the _5 file hangs DVDlab (although it works on my work PC!). Any suggestions as to what could be happening.

i have same problem when trying to record from timer it seems the HQ setting is the Default setting and it reverts back to that when setting timers, as to your recording problems could it be to do with the "auto chapter" setting..? i notice in the owners book for the dvd recorder it says that disks formatted/ recorded on a computer may not work properly in the 300r. series .perhaps this is part of the problem
