RE: DVD Import help?
try
www.dvdboxoffice.com
based in Canada FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE i have ordered quite a few region 1 from them and they arrived ( here in the u.k) just 5 days later, the package usually has a green U.S "customs" sticker on it stating that it contains d.v.d so they usually have no problems getting in to the country through the postal system i have never had a problem over the 5 years i have been ordering from this company , though you may have to pay "import" duty to the U.K revenue if the value is more than £18 ( currently) but as region 1 disks are usually well below that price you should be o.k if in doubt check
"Import VAT is not payable on:
* commercial consignments eg goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18, but this does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters *."

DVD copy protection strengthened
DVDs will be harder to copy thanks to new anti-piracy measures devised by copy protection firm Macrovision. The pirated DVD market is enormous because current copy protection was hacked more than five years ago. Macrovision says its new RipGuard technology will thwart most, but not all, of the current DVD ripping (copying) programs used to pirate DVDs. "RipGuard is designed to... reduce DVD ripping and the resulting supply of illegal peer to peer," said the firm. Macrovision said the new technology will work in "nearly all" current DVD players when applied to the discs, but it did not specify how many machines could have a problem with RipGuard. Some BBC News website users have expressed concerns that the new technology will mean that DVDs will not work on PCs running the operating system Linux.
The new technology will be welcomed by Hollywood film studios which are increasingly relying on revenue from DVD sales.

RE: Blank DVD Disks
i guess it depends how often you use the disks and how much "wear and tear" they will get.the dye looks fine, the disks seem sturdy enough, and they are both 4 and 8 speed
as for the disks i have checked them prior to and after recording and have not found any blemishes so far but for the low price they are, on a spindle i can accept a few losses , after all i don`t think not even the "best" quality disks (that you can pay about 3 to 4 times more for) can be 100% perfect all the time
RE: Help needed with PowerDVD 5.0 on PC.
there are a lot of "hacking" software to make a dvd player region free you could try AnyDVD or dvdshrink

Blank DVD Disks
I have discovered some good quality disks , that are quite cheap, i have used about 200 so far with NO probs on either p.c or standalone dvd players and writers
"The new Tuffdisc DVD is being marketed as a disc that is stronger than other discs the extra strength being attributed to an extra layer applied to the top surface to protect it."

RE: Had To Return Goodmans DVDR301R DVD Recorder...
mine often jumps forward by a bout 10 mins no matter how often i reset it, they do seems to run hot if u use cheap mirror dvd+r disks the "glue" on them starts to heat up and the edges of the disk become sticky and the disk wont finalise

RE: Goodmans GDVD300R - Video Plus query and Default Recording Quality
i have same problem when trying to record from timer it seems the HQ setting is the Default setting and it reverts back to that when setting timers, as to your recording problems could it be to do with the "auto chapter" setting..? i notice in the owners book for the dvd recorder it says that disks formatted/ recorded on a computer may not work properly in the 300r. series .perhaps this is part of the problem
