I`ve recently purchased a Samsung 511 and am now ready to purchase my first surround sound package. I am not sure which of the following would be better -
1. Getting a Sony HTK 215 `all in` system or
2. Getting either a Kenwood KRFV5040 (£180) or a Sherwood RVD6095RDS (£200) alongside the Eltax Stargate speaker package (which has just gone down another £50 to £250 at my local Richer Sounds)
Has anyone got any experience with any of these products, are they any good?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Peter

I`ve got the Sony HTK-215..
..marvellous piece of kit. The sound quality is phenomenal, especially watching things like the battle scenes in Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator. Just make sure you`ve got understanding neighbours when you watch your films LOUDLY! Have a look at the other related threads for the HTK-215 to see what the others think.
Check that your player has the necessary spec. for digital surround sound capability - (optical output / 5.1 / DTS etc.) Also look at the DVD disk details to see if they`re DTS or 5.1 surround or it will sound like normal digital.
The other sound systems I don`t know about but have a look to see if they are not just prologic only. As it`s hard to find surround sound systems for less than 300 quid.

If you get the Kenwood and Eltax speakers you have better upgrade path for future. i.e. You can replace the amp for somthing like DD/DTS 6.1 and adding an extra speaker. The sound generall is beter if the components are well matched. This is option I will go for.
Save yourself a little bit of cash by buying the June issue of What Hi*Fi where they have a readers special for the Kenwood 5040 at £150 for WHF readers. The Stargate package is still £300 though.
