Page 1 of About to buy DVD Rewritef for PC - what media?

Hi all, thinking of buying DVD rewriter for my PC, LG-GSA4163, this writes to both + / - DVDR and RAM.

I want to transfer captured analogue home movies already on my PC to DVD to play on our home DVD.

What media is best for this, is it the + or - (what is the difference).

I udnerstand RAM is the best for archiving as more reliable in the long run, though my DVD player doesn`t play this type, so that is out of the question at the moment/

Any guidance appreciated.

It depends what DVD player you have really. Most will play both + and -, but some will only play one or the other and even fewer will not play either type at all. If you know that your player will playback one type or the other then stick to that, otherwise head over to www.dvdrhelp.com and you can find out what discs your dvd player will playback.

For what you want to do there is no difference between the different types of media. There are a couple of other threads going on for dvd media (in this forum, PC`s and Mobiles and the Bargain Buckets forum) so you may want to have a look in there for guidance on good/bad media and where to buy from.

I have a wharfedale M5 that according to the help forums plays both DVD - and +.

Anybody had experience of this machine and able to confirm this or report on this?

If I were in your boots, I`d look at www.blankdiscshop.co.uk and buy one of their sample packs. That is if nobody who knows for sure replies.

Personally I have a Wharfdale s750, and that is fine with +R media, but I haven`t really used many -Rs. All that I have tried have worked so far though, except DVD+RW, which it will not read at all.
