What new budget dvd recorder to go for?
Hi
can anyone help? Purchased few magazines and it looks like every magazine has a mixed review on dvd recorders.
Originally I was going for Yamanda 8220 but some people have said it`s not very good.
Was thinking of Philips but looks like it is more hassle than it`s worth as it seems to have so many problems with it..
So I am thinking of these ..
Ellion DVR 530S
Panasonic DMRE55 (dont really like the style of it)
Cambridge Audio DVD55+RWI Silver
Too be honest all I want to do is copy stuff from my Tivo onto dvds so I can take them into work and play them.. Already have a Pioneer 575a
Any help advice would be great!!
Cheers
Craig

How about the 4kus from Asda? Bought my parents one for Xmas and they`re pretty good (DVD+R, DVD+RW recording).
Was going to get one for myself to record from the Tivo but went the cachecard/data extraction route.
Cheers

Well beleive me if you buy any of the others you mentioned the styling of the Panasonic will start to look better and better. :) :) :)
Stick to a well known Jap make, keep away from Philips. :)

i can`t speak for the other machines you`re looking at, but a mate of mine got the Cambridge Audio DVD55+RWI Silver from richer sounds & he`s had to take it back twice (replaced both times) & it`s just gone again, so he`s gonna swap it for a different make.
hope this helps :)

It is best to stick to a quality make. These el cheapos offer good value while they work but they do seem very prone to problems.Curry`s do a matsui recorder for £99.
If the discs you want to take to work are discs you want to reuse then forget the E55 which relies on RAM which won`t play elsewhere.Panasonic have a new model out,the ES10 which adds -RW and +R recording, giving you more options for compatibility with various players. It is available for under £200.
You could also try sub £200 machines from Toshiba and Pioneer, but steer clear of those nasty cheap ones.
You get what you pay for

hi phelings :) do you know if the new panny records to +rw as well as -rw ? i`m assuming it doesn`t as all the sales flak i`ve seen only mentions -rw etc, but it seems like an odd omission when it has +r :/ (& tbh from my own experience -rw does not seem as compatible as +rw)
just wondered if you could clarify it :)
