Help!!! Problem with Pioneer 575

peteh (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 6th April 2005, 17:45

For some reason the above has stopped playing 5.1 sound through my TV! It plays 2.0 discs i.e Friends but with 5.1 movies I get the picture and background sounds i.e. explosions and soundtracks but no dialogue.

Has the machine got to go back as I seem to have gone through all of the settings.

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete

you haven`t done something daft like changing the audio properties by
pressing a button on the remote?

i did a similar thing not long after i`d had my sony davs300...i`d been listening
to an audio cd in stereo and forgot to change the audio on the remote (i`d selected
5.1 from the dvd disk menu) but couldn`t figure out why the dvd wouldn`t play in 5.1

took a few minutes to realise what i`d done!!

Ste.

........is that gasoline i smell?

The Pioneer asks what type of sound system you have in your setup. If you tell it you have a full 5.1 set up,when you play 5.1 through a tv,all the centre sound is lost,so you won`t get dialogue. If you tell it you have a normal 2 speaker system it will play back through a tv fine.
Check the initial setup section and recheck the settings for your audio output.
But if you tell it you have a 5.1 setup, any 5.1 material needs to be listened via amp and speakers and not tv

Ah right! So Pete`s being a prat! Doh! Never really noticed it before as I normally switch the amp on once the 5.1 movie is firing up and dont think I have ever watched a movie with just through the TV. Could be wrong though.

I had a similar problem briefly with mine. I`d unplugged my optical cable to use with my PS2 and when I reconnected it, I had exactly the same problem you report - music, sound effects but no dialogue. All I did was unplug the optical cable and plug it back in again. When I switched everything on, it all worked perfectly again.
