DVD recorders

The Great Gonzo (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 16th April 2005, 22:07

I am looking at buying my first DVD recorder in the very near future, and I have a couple of stupid questions.

1. I see lots of recommendations for various machines. Are they all Multi-Region? I own Region 1, 2 and 4 discs. I was looking at the new Panasonic machines.

2. Can I SCART my video player up to a DVD-Recorder and copy a video on a DVD-R.
I am talking about family videos here, not pre-bought video`s. (though I understand that you can also get Macrovision removing SCART leads)

Thanks

Hi. Try multiregionmagic.co.uk They stock several DVD recorders that play back multi region discs. Prices seem reasonable.

Jim.

Depends-some are, some aren`t .Most aren`t `out ofthe box` but most can be easily `hacked` via the handset. On the Panaonics, I would tread carefully-the older Panasonics were not region free and needed a special` handset to make them region free-you could hire one of these contraptions for about 20 quid, unlock your machine then mail it back.

That said, with region free players `cheap as chips` now, you could have a recorder AND a separate, dedicated region free play back machine

Try richer sounds on the Internet. Good prices and a very good service if things go wrong. When my Philips dvdr70 went wrong and Philips decided not to repair it, when Richer Sounds phoned to tell me they offered my money back, or one of two more expense recorders, plus restarting my super cover. They also left me alone to think about what I wanted to do.

So If you are buying from the net, I would check up on the the company to find out what they are like if things go wrong!

I gonna kill that firefox spellchecker, and enjoy doing it.

Bog off Foggy
Ok, I admit it, I HAD a Philips DVDR70...... now I`m getting withdrawal symptoms

... If found, please return this person to the insane asylum

As a basic buy, in many Sainsburys you can still find the Mico 311i (more modern silver fascia) for £99.99. Multi region. It`s a + machine as you`d expect for the price. And you get a petrol voucher - needed these days!

There`s a summary of what this does / not do on the forums here as the original was 10`s of pages long.
