TV defaults to composite video not S video when DVD player switched on

David Mitchell (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 8th July 2001, 09:16

How do I make my TV select S video rather than composite, when the DVD player is switched on?

I have a Toshiba SD210E connected to AV2 on a Sony TV using a fully wired scart cable. When I switch on the DVD player,AV2 is automatically selected (good) however it always defaults to composite video rather than the S video, which means that I get a black & white picture until I manually select S video on the TV.

Anyone know of a way around this?

Is there not an option on your Tosh to tell it what signal you`re bouncing along the SCART lead (eg Video Type or some such gubbins) ?

I think it`s a case of telling the DVD player to always send that signal. Double check that there`s nothing magical you have to do to your TV too (eg enable S-VIDEO option on the SCART socket).

Just an idea, anyhow...

There is indeed, the Tosh is sending S video but the TV always selects composite video when the DVD player is switched on. I can`t find any option to change this.

I recall reading somewhere that the scart specification didn`t originally include S video - Is this perhaps why my TV always chooses composite video? At the end of the day, it is a minor inconvenience since I can manualy select S video but if anyone knows of a solution...

Thanks.
