Help needed in making -RAM to -R with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6

GJF (Competent) posted this on Monday, 15th August 2005, 08:58

I have a Pan DMR-ES10 and a new LG GSA4163b in my computer.

I now have the LG installed and have TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 installed. I want to transfer my -RAM disc`s from the Panny onto -R. I managed to put the contents of a -RAM disc onto the hard drive but after I had burned the image onto a -R disc and then tried to play it back on the Panasonic it displayed unsupported, as does the LG. Any help appreciated.

Heres what I do.
1,Copy file from RAM to HD.
2,Open DVD Author.
3, Click create new project.
4,Click add dvd video
5,Select the file that you have just put on the HD from the RAM disc.
6, I then edit it and add menus.
7, Then click output and select a destination file on my HD for my finished file, then click begin output and it puts it onto the HD .
8, When finished it asks if I want to open the DVD Author writing tool, I select yes, then I select my destination drive ( dvd burner) I then click browse and then I select my finished file from my HD put a blank DVD in my burner and click write to DVD, hey presto 10 mins later finished disc and never had one not read on at least six different players they have been through. :) :)

One other thing that I have found is that TMPGenc DVD Author doesn`t like it if you try to mix different recording speeds on the same disk.

e.g. on the Panny E55 if you record one programme in SP and another one in LP,
DVD Author will complain if you try to burn both programmes onto the same DVD-R.

Everything on the -RAM disc was recorded on my DMR ES10 on LP.

Zovirax, you said that you copied the RAM disc onto your hard drive before opening DVD Author. How do you do that. I`m new to this. I did it after opening a new project in DVD Author. I could then follow your instructions that you kindly wrote.
Another point was that if I remember rightly at first it would not burn the image to a -R disc as it could not find video on th title first track or was it one of the menu`s I created so I deleted them before burning.

Just put the RAM disc in the drive click on "my computer" then RIGHT click on your DVD drive with the RAM disc in it,then click on open in the box that pops up and then drag the file to your HD from your RAM disc then go from there. :)
What I also did was to format a RAM disc in my machine (PANNY E55} and record a 10 minute programme on to it, and then learnt how to use DVD Author and burn it to RW disc, that way it was quicker then doing a full disc and also wasted no disc when burning
There are some guides here that you can D/L.

You don`t need to drag everything onto the HDD-TMPGenc DVD Author will just copy the parts you want when you select `Add DVD Video` -it can save you time and disc space

I suppose if you have only got a 10 GB then maybe, I prefer to put the file on my HD works faster for me then selecting individual parts from the RAM disc and also lets you use the disc again for another recording....each to his own I suppose. :)

No, you misunderstand me- TDA does copy off the disc, but if you only need a few minutes of footage out of several hours, then whats the point of copying it all to the HDD?

HDD space-last count free space was about 600GB, used about 400GB!!!

Sorry I see what you mean, I always do a full disk that I just need to edit and then put it all onto one DVD,but yes you are right in what you say and it does make sense. :) :)
