I want a system on a budget

You fellas/lasses seem very helpful so please help :
A friend of mine recommended on the cheap/cheap/cheap

Phillips player - doesn`t matter which even though he will chip any player (excl sony and pioneer) that doesn`t have an RCE compat control hack.
The Kenwood receiver in Richer Sounds for either £150 or £175 (seems to have gone up)
I would use the speakers from my old aiwa pro logic system and buy a sub.
I would utilise the optical out on the aiwa to receiver to ensure the mrs gets her local radio, and
co-ax the dvd to the receiver, for under £400 could i do better?

Lets tie this one up;
First can i reccomend you give the Philips a miss and go instead for the minato g1(Tesco £110),or any of the lg 3000 range.All are multi region hackable and will play Rce discs without any trouble.
Second your reciever choice is fine,but im afraid to say that putting the speakers from an old aiwa mini system isnt going to do the system any favours.Kenwood systems(and pioneer)have a very upfront and brash sound which needs some suitable speakers to tame-the aiwa speakers are both woefully underpowered and simply not good enough for the demands of Dolby/Dts soundtracks.
So,lets forget the Kenwood reciever and steer you instead towards the Yamaha vs10 home cinema kit.For £350 you get a dolby/dts amp,5speakers and a sub.And theres also two line ins on the back so you can plug in the old aiwa to listen to the radio(by the way,you should only connect via phono plugs,optical and co-ax are for digital sources only).
If anyone tries to dismiss the Yammy as a load of rubbish then i have first hand experience that this is NOT some cheapo system.Yamaha have considerable experience in Home Theatre products-the sound is brilliant,and will sound far better than what your original purchase would have!
All in,£460. Enough change to buy a few movies.
You can always upgrade to a seperate amp and speakers later,SAVE UP!!

Hope this helps your decision
