DVD RW

autumnranger (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 4th September 2005, 15:35

This isn`t really a question but a request for confirmation on a theory. I recorded something on DVD-RW and while it plays well on the source dvd player, it won`t play on any of my other dvd players.

Is this because the technology is newer than the players I presently have? The newest one is about two years old and even that one won`t play the DVD-RW.

Does the formatting make any difference? I formatted the disc on VR mode.

Thanks for any help.

The reason the RW won`t play is because you set it to VR mode. This is pretty much as incompatible as RAM on other players.
Any -RW recordings should be recorded in VIDEO mode to ensure playback on other players. Some recorders and Pioneer players will play VR but thats about it.The disc should be finalised also.Once its watched, you can unfinalise and reuse.VIDEO mode offers no editing features but allows for rewritable compatibility, while VR offers fancy editing but little chance of playback elsewhere

Thank you, I will note that. There wasn`t anything in the manual which says which mode does which. I just got the recorder Friday afternoon.
