SONY 5.1 DVD Player - Model DAV S800
Hi, I seem to get low hissing through all the speakers whenever I use the player. It hisses when watching TV, use the FM radio facility or play a DVD. I thought it may be due to the low quality speaker cables that come with it so I got a quality Monster Cable set of speaker cables but they still hiss. I dont have any other electrical items nearby that could cause interferrence. Any experts out there with advice?
Thanks,
Alan

I used to have this problem with an old Yamaha RX-V396 Dolby Digital amplifier. Despite using good quality loudspeaker cables, interconnects and several different loudspeakers I could not mask the `hissing`. I could be wrong but I think there is very little you could do about it as it is the amplifier itself causing the problem.
My current Yamaha amplifier which is much better quality and more powerful than the previous one produces very, very little hiss, even at "extreme" volume levels - it is not noticeable.
Though I hear Sony`s DAV models are very good, If you want top quality surround sound I would recommend investing in a A/V amplfier or receiver that will (or should) give you noticeably better performance.
You can get a decent A/V amplfier for just £99 these days. I remember reading a very good review of the Yamaha RX-V350 a while ago. Check it out and see what you think! Think of it as an `investment`...

Agreed! Seen the new DAV-X1 model at all? I am considering getting this, as I have a small room and the 2.1 arrangement will mean I actually have some space to live in :D
Not sure what the sound quality is like though - anyone know? And is it worth looking at the Bose one?

Nope, don`t look at the bose.
As much as I like Bose, they cost way too much money when Sony DAV systems sound as good - or better in my opinion.
