Page 1 of Yamaha DD5.1 on a Budget?!

Hi all

Just set my self up with a tasty sounding Yamaha Dolby Digital complete set-up for £169.99 !!! I kid you you not .

Don`t be put off by the price , it rocks , sounds very clear with a excellent range of sound from Terminator 2 UE to Jaws AE .

You get 5 Sat Speakers and a Sub . 1 Optical Input , 1 Co-Axial and 2 Analogue 3.5mm jack inputs , which uses the Dolby Pro-Logic if needed which sounds great ie tested with Star Wars ) . It only has a very small wattage , but if needed can go LOUD , while still retaining lovely sound . The reason being it is a sound system which is tailor made to be used together , thus , working very well as a system . The room I have is 12 Feet square , and the Volume Dial only needs a 1/3 turn to get the room Booming with Sound . It could fill a Larger room with no problem .

The Model Number is TSS-1 and you can choose from a complete Black or White coloured package .

That`s a great deal,as the TSS1 has been discontinued, I believe, and replaced with the VS10.

I`m racking my brains trying to recall where Millennium Music are located ? Not round here in Bulwell, that much I do know !

They are on Derby Road . As you come out town , you go to the left towards the Q.M.C. Hospital , as you see the Police Station on Canning Circus , they are on the other side about 50 yards down .

Gazza,

Seen this system before and got put off by the lack of remote. Is it a problem or are sound levels fairly consistent film to film?

Looks a bit of a bargain!

I take it that it doesn`t have a 5.1 decoder built in (unlike the VS10) The Thomson DVD I am looking to also buy, doesn`t have a decoder, so I will have to get the VS10 as this has a decoder in it

(I am still trying to understand the 5.1 decoder issue, so am I right in having get an amp with a decorder built in?)

Most DVD on-board decoders are fairly superfluous as there is only a mere handful of kit that you could connect up this way (ProLogic amps with six inputs are about the size of it, and they`re rarer than an England cricket win against the Ozzies).

Basically, if your DVD player can output a DD bitstream (ie all of them)and preferably a DTS one as well (ie most of them, but there are a few old skool ones that aren`t this frivolous), and you have an amp , or the VS10, which can decode the stream of 0s and 1s then yer laughing. Just hook the two together with either an optical or a coaxial digital cable (expect to pay around £10-20 for a decent budget cable) and Bob`s yer uncle.

I`ve opted for a VS10 and Tosh 210e from leconcepts.com and they include a gold scart and opto lead. All for £480, (but they`ve only 7 left, be warned)

Please let me know how you get on with the VS-10 and Tosh 210.
I`ve got the tosh 210, and I am a ball hair away from buying the VS10.
How was it to connect up and get working ?
Specific connection tips for the 210 would be great !
Set-up info as well please. I presume Bitstream on Tosh setup screen ?
Also do you use ` normal, 3-N-N or vocal ` on the EAM function ?
I like as much info as I can before spending £300 on something I can`t easily justify to the girlfriend !
