Page 1 of YAM VS10 - good for me ?

Gonna buy a widescreen tv (nicam only) and looking at about £400 change to spend on homecinema set up.

The YAMAHA VS10 greatly interests me - how will it suit my Panasonic RV20 which does not have internal 5.1 decoding?

Am I right in thinking the VS10 will do all the biz to let me enjoy the full sound experience from my discs ?


...or should I go for the ONKYO TX DS 595?

Loads of people have praised the VS10 on these forums, and it`s an "out of the box" solution within your price range. The Onkyo (or similar) will give you a more "future proof" solution, but you`ll need to buy speakers on top. If you have old speakers, why not use them for rear speaker duty, forget the sub for the moment, and concentrate on a decent centre and fronts. That`s the beauty of separates, you can do it in steps....

And you get a radio with the Onkyo....

VS10 is good, very good. Friend just spent £900 on a Sony set up but the sub and rear balance swamps sounds that mine maintains.

It manages the 5.1 for you so you don`t need any other decoder on the DVD etc

Also with all the inputs on the amp, I also have both the TV and VCR running through it for a `surround sound`, rather than 5.1, but the DVD running Dolby Dig produces top effects.

Gone for it - just ordered from Leconcepts for £309.99 (inc p&p) and should be with me tomorrow.

Also just bought a TOSH 28ZDO6B to replace my knackered 6yr old Quadryll
