Toshiba laptop help please...

Hi,

I`m looking to jump into the laptop market and am interested in:

the Toshiba Satellite Pro L10 (256mb/40g) or the Toshiba Satellite A50-105.

Does anyone have any first experience or opinions of these machines?

RE: Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King : Platinum Edition R1 £14.92

Thanks for the heads-up Nick! I also cancelled my pre-order and saved over £2.
I like the way they now do a store credit rather than you waiting donkeys ages for a refund to your CC,

RETURN OF THE KING - Platinum Edition

DVDSoon are now listing Return of the King platinum edition at $37.98CAD (£15.22 at todays rate) - the free shipping is still on. Released on Nov 16th.

Be quick though because if they do as they did the last couple of years that price will rise in a few weeks.

Is it worth getting fixed?

My Panasonic DVD-RV20 appears to have packed up after 3 and 1/2 years.

I think it is the laser because discs play with no problem whatsoever up until the dual-layer transition then the picture freezes and jumps all over the place. It could be that the laser cannot read the 2nd layer - any thoughts on that?

So, is it worth getting it repaired? Or shall I bite the bullet and pop down to Asda for a cheapo?

RE: HOw much are places like Asda selling LOTR:TTT EE for?

My friend works on the video/cd dept at Morrisons (Hull) and confirms the 4-discer is £19.99.

GBA SP from the States

We’re visiting the US next year and the lad is thinking about buying a GBA SP over there (about £57).
I understand that the US GBA’s are set to a different voltage and we will need a step-down converter to use it off the mains in this country.

Which is the best one to get?

I was Captain Darling from Blackadder Goes Forth - it guessed Radar

Then I was Alf Garnett - it guessed Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

:o :o :o SPOILERS BELOW :o :o :o

Good to have QT back on our screens - well worth the wait.

Even though the b&w sequence may have been an afterthought it seemed to work fairly well. The way it was lit gave it a feel that it should have been just as it was seen.

I particularly liked the anime section detailing the coming of age of O-Ren Ishii.
In fact quite a few different homages to be seen throughout this film.

I am going to give this a second viewing in a few days time - and when I do I want to check a possible continuity error. I`m sure that when The Bride and Vernita looked outside to see the school bus pull up the Pussy Wagon could not be seen; but it was parked in the same place later on. Hey, maybe I`m wrong!

Overall, this movie is just about what you would expect to see from Mr T. On first viewing I give it 8/10 - that will probably change after I see it again next week.

RE: Pheonix Nights Vol 1 and 2 only £14.99

I have just ordered a copy too - like the free delivery to store option!

The discs do have all the extras according to Choices who have it at £22.49:

"Phoenix Nights:, One Man And His Horse Documentary, Deleted Scenes, Out-Takes, Un-Cut Armchair Super Store, Trailers, Peter Kay Commentary,
Phoenix Nights 2:, It`ll Be Alright On The Phoenix Nights 2: Featuring Out-Takes From The Series, Brian Potter On Comic Relief, Deleted Scenes, Trailers, Director And Cast Commentary, A Few Special Treats"

Word of caution mind you from the WHSmith site:

"We will endeavour to source the title(s) you have ordered. Please note that this confirmation of order is not a confirmed acceptance of your offer. All title(s) are ordered subject to availability and prices quoted by publishers are subject to change without notice due to circumstances beyond the control of WHSmith.co.uk. Should a price change outside the guidelines indicated on our Help Pages, we will contact you by e-mail and ask if you wish to proceed. You will have no obligation to purchase the title(s) at the new price quoted."

Let`s see what happens.....

RE: Whats the stupidest thing anybody has ever said???

This is not stupid but just shows the innocence of children -

Whilst walking in Bath the other day two very well endowed scantily dressed young ladies walked by. A bloke nearby leered at them as they passed, with dribble practically coming from his mouth.

My 8yr old daughter on seeing this looks to me and says,

"Daddy, that man is looking at those ladies like he wants to marry them"

Sweet !!

DVDplus problems

Has anyone been to DVDplus recently?
I was trying to get on all day yesterday and again this morning but it is just not loading up. Only get as far as part of the first page - always with "12 items remaining" showing at the bottom.
Anyone else had similar probs?

RE: Important regional fish and chips question

Like xHCx I too am a Yellerbelly from Scun-thorpe (aterix that !!) but have been in exile in East Yorkshire for the past 13 years. They call them scraps here too.
I recall when I was a kid getting scallops (battered thick cut potato sclices) from the chippy but you can`t get them around here. In the Hull area you can buy patties (mashed potato & sage covered in batter).

What are the local delicacies where you all live?
