Are We SED Ready...? Just an Update!
Hi All
Surely everyone as heard about the brilliance in viewing pleasure that is `SED` (surface-conduction electron-emitter display). Combining CRT and LCD technology to bring you a flawless progressive picture. SED-TVs have all of the best features of CRT televisions, like good color quality and black level, without a CRT`s bulk or weight. SED-TVs have a wide viewing angle, and the SCE (minature CRT) structure gets rid of the blurring that can happen around the edges of some CRT sets. The sets are compact and lightweight, and they consume less power than other flat-panel sets. It isnt possible to weigh the cons of the SED-TV until people have actually begun to use it.
There have been rumours of it costing at around £5,000 but these are only rumours. Toshiba and Canon-Japan have announced that the launch date has been delayed from spring 06` to 2007 so thats another year of LCD and Plasma TV sales for Sony to look forward to.
So how long do you all think the LCD and Plasma range will continue to be distribute, because Toshiba are likely to pull right out of their LCD and Plasma range all together if this thing goes well and my bets are on the SED-TV.

SED has been "just around the corner" for the last 3 years. I would expect real rollout around mid to late 2008.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
So where does SED fit in the grand picture of things? Better or worse than HD. Or will it just be a matter of opinion?

I didnt think SED fell under the same group as HD? HD is a format of data, SED-TV is a physical medium that embraces the HD video signal. There is no comparison there. I think its a War between LCD`s, Plasma`s and SED-TV`s.

I take a dim view of DLP - literally as like most projection TV it isn`t good for daylight viewing (although it does alright in the resoution stakes).
I thought OLED was for small displays - like cellphone screens and portable PVRs.
Not sure about FLCD - ferroelectric ?.
