hi,can anyone please advise me is it worth paying up to £30 for these monster scart leads from comet to recieve a good picture,or is there a cheaper alternative, regards peter.
Comet sold my mum a £30 Monster Scart cable when she bought a VCR. A VCR for frick`s sake!!!
If I could meet the spotty oik who did that... >:( >:( The cable`s OK, but nowt to write home about, especially for £30.
The answer to your question is almost definitely "YES" there`s a cheaper (and probably better) alternative. www.tvcables.co.uk are doing the Philex Thor for less than £18 delivered here, and it`s a great cable from a very reliable dealer.
Other people may have other recommendations. Richer Sounds will do you a Cambridge Audio scart cable for £9.99 which is probably as good as the Monster one.

Dr 42%er.
It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
I think it`s fair to assume generally that buying NOTHING from Comet would provide you with better value ;)
If you are internet-enabled then you will get better deals online, and generally it is considered by people with experience that better cables can improve the quality of a signal (or rather reduce the degradation) which is pretty important in a large LCD which highlights picture imperfections - especially with low-def TV.

My view is slightly different (even about comet). No use getting overpriced cables at any time - especially crap like Monster. Bear with me while I clarify.
The signal output from your DVD player is what needs to be carried. Whether the signal is carried through Monster Brand OFC wires or no brand OFC wires, the signal doesnt care really... it arrives at the other end. Depending on your DVD Player, using the wires or not will or will not make any difference. If you are after SCART Cables, I recommend the JVC in Currys totally - costs similar to ones online, and works a treat. If your VCR is a £30 Medion, then buy a cheapo £5 cable from Tesco - will work well. however, if you have component connections, then use a better quality cable.
But whatever you do, and wherever you buy it from, DONT buy monster - highest priced crap on earth I have ever come across.

You have a point - the OP doesn`t mention what kit he`s connecting together. (It`s not like a good scart will improve the picture of a Supermarket DVD player) However, I still stand by my support of the original replies that something like the Thor available online would most likely offer better price/performance than something from Comet.

hi,Dan B i have an acer 26" lcd ,a sony dvd recorder also new and a sky digibox
so to recieve a decent picture would a conponent lead be better ( one came with the tv) or a decent quality scart to scart 2 of be better?? thanks every one so far for your advice, regards peter.
I would definitely recommend a decent component lead - would provide you with a much higher quality picture. Of course, this is dependent on the settings of your DVD Player. If it is capable of handling progressive scan, then definitely go for a decent component lead. otherwise, a decent SCART in RGB mode could also do the trick.
For the component lead (which is essentially a set of RCA Phono Cables), I used two 2-RCA to 2-RCA cables (JVC) from currys. These provide me with a better picture than Belkin PureAV Component cable. The cost is £12 if I remember correctly (for both). Otherwise, invest in a decent SCART.
I know I am promoting currys but sometimes the deals there are pretty good - especially if you dont need to ask the spotty staff to help.
