Advice please for DVD software for a Laptop

girders (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 22nd September 2001, 10:02

A friend has just got a new Sony Vaio <sp?> laptop including DVD drive. I`d appreciate any recommendations as to the best software to use for playback and/or info on playing multi-region discs.

Thanks

Hi there

I would use ` PowerDVDv3.0 ` and ` DVD genie ` to give you Multi Region usage .

Depending on your DVD Drive you might need a Hack/Bios change , as some Computer DVD Drives come as a set Region . But try the software first .

Hope this helps .

Thanks for the help. Her laptop had come with winDVD pre-installed, and that was working fine for R2 disks. I downloaded DVD Genie and it assessed her drive, and said it needed a firmware update to remove the inbuilt region code setting, but as she`s only had the laptop a couple of days she was reluctant to let me play with it ;-)

I`ll give her a couple of months to get hooked, then I`ll hack it for her.

Could you please tell me where I can get PowerDVDv3.0 and DVD Genie. Is it free or do you have to pay for it ?

Any weblinks you have would be appreciated.

Many thanx.
