help needed - dvd shrink won`t backup to sony dvd-r X 16, instead it ejects and says illegal disc> I`ve used dvd shrink with many other discs and never had a problem. Would be grateful for any advice as I`ve just bought quite a few of the sony discs!

dvd shrink will shrink it for you so it will fit onto a 4.7G blank dvdr but you need seperate burning software something like Nero to burn the output file. What I do is get dvdshrink to make a .ISO and use dvddecrypter to burn the ISO Image to the blank dvdr.

Thanks Navs,
I have Nero on my PC but was not aware that it was being used. I have without any problems backed up to many different types of disc in the past. I have given all instructions via the DVD shrink dialog boxes. The only times I have used dvd decrypter is when the disc has been encrypted with something that dvd shrink has not been able to sort by itself. It is only these Sony discs that I am having a problem with.

What film is it?
In the last few months Sony have introduced a new form of copy protection: ARccos.
So if its a Columbia title, especially a recent one ,then it will be ARccos causing problems and DVD Shrink won`t be able to copy without an additonal program.
I already had bough DVD Region Free so I was entitled to a free upgrade to "DVD Region and CSS Free".
This opens automatically on loading a dvd as its also the region coding breaker too.
With it working in the background,DVD Shrink will work again.
When I first hit the problem there was talk of freeware to get round it but they were complicated and never worked for me anyway.
The only title I have with ARccos on is HOSTEL.
I assume all new CT releases will have it.
Sony are copy protection obsessed.
Years ago their RCE failed to change anything.
Their recent addition of CP to CD`s left them with a multimillion pound bill for infecting PC`s and they were forced to drop it.
And their obsession is also what is causing the continual delay with the arrival of Blu-ray.

There`s just not enough information to go on. Sure, there`s the everchanging Arccos protection but has the OP even tried to just shrink to the hard disk? i.e. take the dvd out of the equation.
AnyDVD gets over all the Arccos issues.. apparently.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Yes, AnyDVD does work on all discs. You get free updates for life, and they find workarounds for any new discs which cause problems, even before that disc is released.

We don`t like to ask how! ;)
