Vertical lines on tv, any ideas?
I have a fairly old amstrad 28` tv(it`s crap). When I have a scene where it is fairly dark vertical lines appear all the way across the screen!
This does not happen in light scenes only dark, and it happens with my dvd player(pioneer dv525) and my ntl digibox.
Any ideas?
Would a decent scart cable help as I use a crap one at the moment?

I`ve got a similar problem, with my very flashy (not!) Goodmans 28" and a Wharfedale 750s. I suspect it is to do with the leads, and I intend replacing them at some point. It`s beginning to really annoy me now.
It might be an issue with feedback in the SCART cable. Before replacing the cable, try opening up the plug at the TV end of the lead and cutting the wire leading to pin 19.

One slight problem with that. My TV only has one Scart socket, so my DVD player is connected via a Scart to phono. Any suggestions for fixing that lead? Would a better quality one reduce the feedback?

Cheers Mike, I`ll try a decent scart cable, but this also happens through normal RF cable as well!
Any ideas with this?

I think there may be something going one here. For the last few weeks I`ve noticed shadow and ghost images and lines when watching TV thru my ntl digibox. I`ve even changed TV`s from an older Hitachi to a new JVC in the meantime and it`s still occuring. I suspected it was either the ntl reception or interference on the scart cable. I can`t believe everyone`s scart cables are now suddenly playing up so is there something dodgy going on with ntl`s digital signals?

I think you`re getting something different.
I get vertical bands like broad corrugated cardboard, alternately black and very dark grey. The difference is slight and you only notice it on dark scenes and in the the black bands on widescreen.
It`s definately a cable issue because I can minimise it by fiddling with the video phono input.
Sounds like you need to phone ntl and tell them to get their act together
