Advice please on a new 5.1 system.

I`m after a 5.1 system which upscales standard defintion dvds into 720p/1080i through HDMI and supports DIVX playback. I was looking at the following two systems. Can anyone tell me what they think of them? Or offer a good alternative..

The first link actually goes to a home page, although I assume you are talking about one of the Samsung systems that they are selling.

I would go with Panasonic as the superior brand. More functions, more POWER (as if 500 Watts RMS isn`t enough already...!), more disc compatibility. Definitely the superior option and I`m sure it would blow you away. 8)

Just got the Panasonic 855, connected to a Panasonic plasma by HDMI and picture quality and sound are awesome.

Yup - I`d go for the Panasonic too. I got that exact model late last year and have it connected by an HDMI lead and the picture quality (and sound) is fanatstic! Very powerful...

Also, they did a Top 50 all-in-one Home Cinema Systems in one of those magazines recently (can`t remember which) - and it came out top. :)

If you do go for it, remember you`ll need it multi region (if you`ve got lots of region 1 discs, anyway). You can get a multi-region one for only a few quid extra from most places...
