So you have started 2 threads about Blu Ray being region coded (THEY R) and one thread about HD DVDs (THEY R NOT)

The problem seems to be that neither of the Blu-ray threads has provided the answer to the real question of whether it is safe to buy cheaper US Blu-ray discs for use in Europe. The list I pointed out above shows which US discs should be playable here and so can be bought over the web at substantial savings over High Street prices (HMV`s are frankly extortionate - £30 for X-Men 3 they have to be kidding.).

If Region Coding has been enabled on a US disc and the Code has been set at "A" then all European viewers should see is a screen saying that the disc is from the wrong region. None of the disc content is usually playable. From the list at the link above it looks as though the packaging on a lot of the discs doesn`t match the coding on the disc so that the discs will play in Region B. Fox and Disney seem to be consistent in implementing Regional Coding so at least we know not to buy the US versions of their discs but Sony seem to go both ways so it`s a bit of a guess whether or not their US discs will work in Europe until some person buys one and finds it doesn`t.
