Which Scart Lead?

gingerone (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 27th November 2001, 09:35

I need to buy a new scart lead(mines a duffer).
I have been looking at the ixos 126av which is £29.95 or the Qed Sqart which is £39.95.
Is it worth spending this much as I have a rather naff amstrad 28 inch tv(4:3)?

Have a look at http://www.beyondhifi.net - they have some nice ones by BTech starting at £10 for a 1.5 metre one (plus VAT & Del). Very good service. I notice they also have some new ones called TechLink, which are a bit more pricey - don`t know anything about them. I have one of the BTech ribbon cables.

How do you find the btech cable?
Did it improve the picture quality compared to a cheap lead?

I`m using the Maplin Home Cinema range of scart leads. I haven`t compared them to the QED or IXOS range but I do find them an improvement over the freebie leads

Cheers Jasp, how much do they cost and where can I get them from?

BTech an improvement - YES. Picture quality improved, plus I needed a 5m lead, so had to buy a decent one anyway. Now I`m moving things around, so won`t need 5m, so I`ll just have to find a way of hiding all that cable!
I think they`re pretty good value, particularly if you only need a short one - hardly a major outlay.
Maplin - http://www.maplin.co.uk - the home cinema ones are £14.99 upwards.
Basically, a decent, fully wired (i.e. all pins connected so you can take advantage of RGB or SVideo rather than a composite video signal) scart will make a difference - I think differences between brands will be less marked. If you have a Maplin near, try them, but I (and others on this site - are you there, Clayts?) can recommend the BTech cables.

Any idea if there is a major difference betwen the normal btech scart lead and the ribbon.(I`ll more than likely get the normal lead anyway, I only need a very short cable!)

I think it is supposed to have less interference between channels, but I`m not sure how much difference that would make to us mortals without 56" Toshiba monster TVs. Yes, I bought that basically because it wasn`t much extra. My 5m one was suprisingly heavy.
