Page 1 of It Won`t Fit !!
Hardware Forum
Can anyone help me with this? I`ver downloaded some films on DivX and i`m trying to burn them onto DVD so i can play them on my non-Divx compatible DVD player. I`m using Nerovision Express. I can play the films after i`ve burnt them, that isn`t the problem. The problem is i can`t fit a film of 1hour 50mins onto an ordinary 4.7Gb DVD. I thought you could fit 2 hours onto these discs. It tells me that there isn`t enough space but it can reduce the quality to long play so it does fit. Am i doing something wrong? My burner has dual-layer ability but i`m using ordinary discs. Should i use dual discs instead? AM I USING CRAP SOFTWARE TO DO MY BURNING! If so,,,,,please suggest an alternative?
Thanks for you time and patience in reading this!!

Life`s a bitch and then you die !
It`s not the length of the filmthat matters - it`s the size of the file. Obviously it is more than 4.7GB. Click on "convert to long play" and see how the quality is when it`s done.
Should be ok.
Otherwise, yes, you would need to use a DL disc, so long as the software allows for them.
I feel your pain.
For a long time I struggled with converting to DVD, and never ever found a easy or foolproof way to do it.
In the end I just bought a DivX player for £40 and saved myself hours and hours of grief, let alone the cost of all those wasted DVDs.
I have since given up on tradition DivX players as well, as mine allways needed the sound converted.
I currently have on order a Media Player.to replace it. No more DVD Burning AND it can deal with VBR sound, the end is in sight.
The other way around it would be to write to a DVD folder structure on your hard drive rather than burn to disc, then use DVD shrink to open the folder and shrink it to fit to a blank DVD. would take a while though as it would have to do the DivX to DVD conversion, then a shrink and burn.
odd, i use nero for converting xvids to dvd, & never had a problem, the first time i used it it asked me if it was ok to compress the file so it would fit but never bothered me again after that, & i got lord of the rings on a single dvd (extended edition)

Convertx to dvd, surprised nobody elses recommended it, has never let me down, 4 to 5 40 min episodes on one disc, basic menu with the new version, then just burn using nero etc.
A WISE MAN ONCE SAID
yep..
Another one here for ConvertXtoDVD - does the conversion, builds menus with backgrounds of your choice and burns it to disk - all in one!
Great piece of software.
Just craptacular....
then just burn using nero etc.
then why not use nero for everything,,,, + it can do reasonably funky menu`s ;)

convertxtodvd all the way..... (then shrink (or recode) to fit if necessary..)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
