(SCART / RGB PROBLEM) Sanyo CE28WN4-B TV

Moncs (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 15th January 2002, 17:20

I`am having a problem with my new Sanyo widescreen TV, sadly Im not to clued up on TV`s etc so I would be greateful for some help.

I have a Sanyo CE28WN4-B widescreen TV which has 2 SCART
sockets.

Whenever I plug anything (SKY, PS2 etc) into AV1 (RGB) then I get perfect picture apart from being quite dull and I cannot change the colour/contrast etc.

When I plug anything into AV2 (S-Video) the picture is not as good but the colour is a lot better and I can change it if required.

Do you know if this is a problem with the TV or if there is a cable I
could buy so I can have a perfect picture with good colour??

You can not alter the colour or contrast if you are feeding a RGB signal it is a fixed signal some tv`s you can i think panasonic models you can you can alter the contrast on your sky box via the services menu and go to picture settings.

your scart may not be enable for r.g.b. i buoght some silver series scarts by lectropacks and even my wife noticed the difference in sound and picture. so they can`t be bad.. i cant` find their website at the moment but if you look in what t.v. and video. or home entertainment you should see their advertisements. they cost about £15.00 each but are worth the money i have a philips widescreen and pace digibox and a jvc. s.vhs and the picture now using the scarts is superb

Hi Guys... Thanks for the replies

AV1 socket is wired for RGB (according to the manual)

So, do you think if I bought a silver series SCART cable that may help??

Moncs - you`re in luck : I have the self-same TV and you are right : the RGB picture is quite dull on this set, and the S-Video one very colourful.

I personally find the S-video connection better for DVD, then you can run your digibox into RGB.

There was a slight improvement with the RGB picture when I upgraded to a fully-shielded SCART lead from http://www.beyondhifi.net but overall, my eyes do not deceive me, and the S-Video picture just edges it for me.

Guys
Not on the same tack but this is the type of TV I had to exchange for my current Hitachi about a year ago, although I don`t remember the -B bit at the end so maybe you have an ` amended ` model. Apparently Sanyo have knowingly put this TV out with a potential problem with the part that controls the auto picture switching, but are keeping their fingers crossed that not all of them go wrong. I noticed that the picture on mine wasn`t switching down to the right size and everyone look tall and thin. As I was new to widescreen I put it down to " must be ok " but the more I watched the more I became convinced it was duff. The engineer came out, switched on text, and immediately declared it faulty. He then phoned Sanyo and said " we`ve got one here "....
Needless to say I didn`t exchange it for another Sanyo although Scottish Power did tell me they`d none left anyway as it had sold like hotcakes becaue of it`s lovely looks presumably.

Thanks again Guys...

Im no expert on WS TV`s but everything seems fine apart from the RGB port.

CLAYTS canyou suggest if this setup would be fine on this TV....

SKY - direct to AV1 (RGB) (via new improved SCART cable)
VIDEO - SCART via SKY box
DVD - direct to AV2

I also use an ariel cable from TV to video and video to Sky so I
can watch TV thru channel 6 instad of Scart

Does that sound right??

My Sanyo 32" is the same with RGB - I do like the clarity, although duller, but what I hate is that when I press TV on the sky remote the TV seems to change from duller RGB to brigter `other`. So I just keep it at the normal setting (S-Vid presumably).

Pressing your Tv button on the sky ...does it do the same?
My setup is same as moncs. I will change the basic scart tonight for my gold shielded one to see if it makes a difference. I didnt notice much before but that was about a year ago.

Your set-up sounds spot on APART from the video scart via SKY box.
I do not know why but if you connect your video by scart through your SKY box it will, probably, cause you problems. I do not pretend to understand why but 3 systems I have set up myself and 2 mates have never worked right if you do the video through SKY thing.
It results in very strange behaviour with SKY and the DVD picture is also affected, even though it`s on a different AV channel. It`s definitely an interference thing.
I can`t see why either !, but as soon as you disconnect the Video to SKY scart there are no more problems.
So...My advise is as follows, and it works great for 3 of us
1/ SKY via good scart to AV1 (RGB)
2/ DVD via good scart to AV2 (S-VHS)
3/ VHS connected by RF aerial cable only.
Unfortunately it means that VHS playback, and recording, is a pretty crap picture but who cares about VHS these days anyway !?

Hi there

I am going on a limb here by saying the Playstation 2 as far as I know and what I can gather does not give out a true RGB output, despite the fact to the instruction manual and the numerous gadgets you can buy saying RGB scart for Playstation 2. Though the picture in S video is not that great compared to the superior S Video its much better than composite..I will probably get a few heckles from some quarters but I will put my head on the block, just don`t chop off yet...:)
