Page 1 of DVD Playback on my PS2
Hardware Forum
Can anyone help me please, My PS2 plays fine on my main TV downstairs but on the bedroom portable it keeps going bright then dark during DVD playback( no problem when playing games). The TV has a scart but it is not a stereo TV and I connect it up using the lead provided with the PS2 which is composite connectors( i think, its the red, yellow and white connectors) plugged into the scart adapter thing provided.I`m playing region 2 discs and I`m not using DVD Region X . Is it just that the bedroom TV cannot handle DVD??

I presume you are connecting directly into the TV and not via a VCR. How old is the TV ?
Why copy protection is a bad idea (was: DVD Playback on my PS2)
Hmm... I think your bedroom TV is showing a curious intolerance to Macrovision (copy protection). Normally this bright/dark patterning would only appear if you tried to loop through a VCR or copy your DVDs to VHS, but very occasionally it can appear on a direct connection to a TV set (or, more often, a video projector).
To be honest, there`s not much you can do about it - you can`t really complain to Sony as the PS2 works on your downstairs TV. You could try complaining to the TV manufacturer, but they might argue that the TV is within specification and it`s Macrovision that`s screwing it up (and technically they`d be right). Worth a try though.
I suspect that you`ll have to fork out for a Macrovision removal device from the likes of http://www.sonel.com/ before you can get your PS2 to play DVDs correctly through your TV.

Yes your`e right, I feel stupid now cos it was obvious because the TV is a TV/VCR combi so it will be a macrovision problem.
Thanks
