RE: Original 1968 Planet of the Apes £7.65 delivered

that`s your opinion.

Not all remakes are bad.

I can see it now - in a few years time Will Young`s first single release....not bad, unique voice - altough can`t wait for some original songs.

RE: Original 1968 Planet of the Apes £7.65 delivered

that`s your opinion.

Not all remakes are bad.

I can see it now - in a few years time...........planet of the apes 2002 that wasn`t too bad !!!

RE: The Fellowship of the Ring Censorship Problems

Just to add my penny`s worth, but why are VHS film sometimes a higher certificate rating than the DVD versions e.g Die Hard is an 18 on VHS and 15 on DVD ??

RE: player around £200 mark, recommendations???

Where ever you buy it. Remember Macrovision must be disabled and that it plays rce discs. Try AVland.co.uk- £180

RE: fast and the furious in at cd-wow

In response to smallbaldman. The guy may well sell mainly region zero`s , but does sell fewer region1. Quite simply you make sure what your buying and asking for in the same way as you would with anyone else.

The packaging ,etc. absolutely nothing different from normal region 1.

the guy seems to be based in Malaysia - I sent him a UK postal order the first time to Malaysia. Second time I paid via the internet.

Does the exact location matter. You pay a reasonal price for the DVD - it arrives within good time (5 days) . It`s a new DVD. It plays fine , etc etc

The bloke responds to emails (replies may not be wihin minutes) - seems very polite !!!

RE: New DVD player approx £150, taking M5 back 4 refund

I`ll vouch too for the Pioneer 444. At about about £180 for a multi-region and macrovision disabled (make sure it does both !) you just cannot go wrong. It`s very highly well reviewed and looks postitivelysexy

RE: Toshiba SD510E

most shops seem to have sold out of the Pioneer 545. The ones that have one want more money. Pioneer UK seems to run out with lead tmes of about 2 weeks +.

I couldn`t wait and went for the 444 multi-region + macrovision disabled from AV Land.

RE: www.dvdplayers.co.uk - Your opinions

Reading the email they sent you. My comments still stand. I still can`t believe their remarks !!!!

Full strength or NOT that is certainly not the way they should carry out business. Unless they want to lose it all by the time they move to new premises !!!!

RE: Beyond Jurassic disc and collectors case.

A month ??? These days I can`t imagine anywhere in the world you live that would take that long for delivery unless they don`t have it in stock !.

RE: DTS SOUND PROBLEM ANYONE IN THE KNOW??

From what you have said, surely you see the problem is with your player. Which make is it ?

RE: www.dvdplayers.co.uk - Your opinions

Forgot to add, that I too will be reminding other future/possible customers of their conduct - even more customers lost !!!!

I hope they get the message - LOAD AND CLEAR !!!!!!!!

They obviously DO NOT have any time for their customers, in response to the the emal they sent you....that you had too much free time on your hands !

RE: www.dvdplayers.co.uk - Your opinions

comments threatening legal action from shops to their customers are NOT the right way to do business. It should be seen only as a last/desperate resort, with proof and documentaation to help them.

It makes me wonder how some companies do business ? Don`t they know without customers they won`t be in business ? A sucessfull business is one that treats customers , even ones that complain, well with listenning to what they have to say and trying to come to some sort of compromise beneficial to both parties!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barnum42, when I hear stories of what you had to put up with it and others in similar positions it just really angers me.

We , as customers, have the ultimate power over these companies. Quite simply `dvdplayers` and `cyberhome` - you won`t be seeing or hearing from me either ! and I`m sure many others who you tell this story too will avoid them. Have they done themselves a favour ????

RE: Pioneer DV-545

I too am looking very closely at this one after doing a lot of research of what is out there, prices and reviews, specifications and peoples comments from various forums. At about £260+ for a multi-region player - surely this has to be on anyones top list if purchasing a player with £350 to play with. - I`d go as far and say maybe even £400.

Anyone no any different ....say so.

As for places to purchase - well 2 spring to mind - Techtronics and HI-FIBitz

RE: DTS probs with Samsung 709 and Cambridge s.works DTT3500

You have answered the question yourself.

You do indeed need an amp decoding the signal correctly. The 709 does send out DTS and DD 5.1.

I have/had the 709 hooked up to the Sony STRdb-930. Worked a treat.

RE: ANYWAY OF TURNING STANDARD TV INTO NTSC FORMAT

I`m not 100% clear on what you are saying. If I am not sure whether my TV can accept an NTSC signal and I do know it has an RGB scart does that mean I can view region 1 DVD`d in colour by using the an RGB scart to connect the DVD player and the TV ??

RE: Best Picture

If my understanding is correct - they are all the same !!! But as you say your player does not support RGB so I would guess again and say the S-VIDEO to scart or S-VIDEO to S-VIDEO is better than scart to scart. Experiment (?).

RE: Blockbuster DVD`s

I have complained and it seems you are all right. This is the reply from Blockbusters Customer services:-
"Regretfully, I must advise that a number of the studios are releasing their
rental DVDs with out any extra features, prior to the release of the retail
copies. Unfortunately Blockbuster has no control over this matter and
purchases the stock that is made available."

The other questions is when the DVD is actually released to jo public will Blockbusters take them off the shelf and put the new released versions ?

Blockbuster DVD`s

I hired out Captain Corelli`s Mandolin yesterday and found no extras and yet the UK release does state there quite a few.

I think we are being swindled and I`m going to tell them so.

RE: DV646A

Apologies. Apologies.

I overlooked the dreaded VAT !!!!!!!
I`ll be more carefull in future.

RE: DV646A

I`ve seen the same player - region free at Techtronics for £297 incl . free delivery and free dvd - Charlies angels.

?? It`s available in Black - I`m not sure if yours is silver.

RE: DVD Playback on my PS2

I presume you are connecting directly into the TV and not via a VCR. How old is the TV ?

RE: fast and the furious in at cd-wow

forgot to mention these were brand new and sealed and I have viewed them both on my Samsung 709 without a problem.

RE: fast and the furious in at cd-wow

I purchased this - region 1 for £9 incl. shipping from `ALLREGION` in Malaysia. Before you start to worry, I purchased it from Ebay together with Moulin Rouge (region 1) also for £9 - albeit seperate auctions.

Both DVD`s arrived in 5 days of them being sent.

I have just won a Knights tale for £8.50. region 1.

There`s no currency conversion involved like the others sites. I sent a postal order for £18 for the 2. Hopefully the guy now accepts visa credit - therfore no postal order charges!!!

RE: Is the Pioneer DV-444 the machine to buy?

AndyR, how r u listenning to your DVD`s - is it via the TV from the DVD scart cable ?

Also the noticeable pause at layer change you mentioned is that worse than your previous player - or is this your first ? In which case, as far as I am aware, all players suffer also depending on the DVD some are worse than others. I have read one comment from someone about buying a player with a bigger buffer to overcome this. God knows which players fit in this category.

fingerprints on DVD`s , well most players will react in the same way unless , as mentioned earlier, you have had another player and know this is worse.

RE: On the subject of advice....What`s the best DVD player

I`ve checked some more since the last post and it seems the Marantz doesn`t really cut the mustard with any reviews I have read!!

It seems to be a choice between the Pioneer DV-545 and 444 (both well within my budget). Are there any others maybe more expensive £100 more that have a better picture ??

It seems like the visual components are the same between the 545 and 444 - so If the picture quality is the same I`d rather go for the cheaper 444. Granted there a few more extra`s on the 545 mainly on the audio side, but I don`t need them.

RE: Worrying.......

your previous statements are a bit worrying...
"From what research I have done...... this seems to be because the DV-444K player outputs in PAL 60 mode which UK VCRs don`t like.
.....The signal will need to be converted to real PAL".

Does the above mean when we are watching a VCR on our TV it is not `real PAL` or is the TV converting it into `real PAL` or is the VCR player converting it to `real PAL` from a `PAL 60`

RE: R1 Moulin Rouge failure on Scan 2000

interesting with the DTS track. I have the 2 year old Samsung 709 which plays all regions and this is the first DVD that I cannot hear the sound from the tv with the DTS soundtrack. I noticed this by accident as I always play the sound through my amp.

the sound is heard on the tv when you switch to 5.1. The TV is temporarily a 25 year old Furgurson 26" 4:3 with vibrant colours to match modern tv`s !!!!!

On the subject of advice....What`s the best DVD player

one can buy for under £400 (region-free). I am looking at picture quality as the overriding factor to pipe into my 36" wide screen tv.

I have a sound amp, so it doesn`t need to have any of that on-board except for co-ax out and RGB scart (one is fine).

I have been trying to find some dvd hardware reviews of the web, but not very successfull. I currently have the trusted old Samsung 709.

Thanks
