Replacement TV for Conservatory

gilesme (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 11th April 2010, 07:42

After a bit of advice, if possible.

We have a 26" LCD TV in the conservatory.

I got the LCD at the time, due to having a "matt finish" screen, so when used in the conservatory there were no reflections.

It`;s now time to replace (with something bigger...) - Is LCD the only way to go, or do LED tvs have a matt finish also ?

I`d be surprised if LEDs don`t come with a matt finish as well. It`s nothing to do with the technology itself, and living rooms are prone to reflections more than offices.

I haven`t seen an LED with a matte finish though...  LCD`s are usually recommended for conservatories but I think whatever you get you need to acknowledge there will be quite a few occasions where you just won`t be able to see the picture properly...
I`ve been looking for one (46" though) for a while and just can`t decide.  Keep waiting for the next one (needs to be slim as being wall mounted)...

I`ve got an LED LG42SL9500 in the living room.
It has a glass panel runs along the front of the entire TV, so the front is completely flat.
Very easy to clean, looks fantastic, TV itself is under 4 cms thick.
A lot of people mention reflections from the glass panel, but not something I`ve noticed.
Best LCD/LED I`ve had so far, chuffed with it.
So much better than any other LCD I have or have had.
Especially the 3 month old Sony piece of crap I sold to get it.

I`m pleased for you.
Maybe Sony have FINALLY sorted out their inconsistent backlighting problems.
But I won`t be giving Sony my business again, they`ve had their chance and they failed.

Not done any picture tweaking, but very pleased with it so far.

Streamed a film via "lovefilm" the other night - great feature (£10 per month).

Go and have a look at the new Panasonic 32d25 led its not that cheap but a cracking picture and freesat HD and Freeview HD If 32 isn`t big enough it comes in 37" it`s about a grand but if you go to a pana shop you get 5years warranty and a free blu-ray player.
