Page 1 of why do sony and techtronic.com insist the sonyhtk215 is not dts?

I have seen the sony htk215 and have contacted various companies including SONY and www.techtronic.com and they all insist that this unit is not dts. Why when everyone who has one says it is. I have emailed techtronic re this and they insist that is not dts

Please help

Well, almost all web retailers neglect to mention that it has dts, probably going on what Sony tell them.

If you`re not convinced (and there are so many users who say it does have dts), get down to a shop for a demo to prove it once and for all.

There have been a number of threads about the lack of 215s on this and other Forums. The latest comment is Sony have none in the UK to send to retailers and will not have any in reasonable quantities for sometime.
I will not order until someone has some in stock and can give a confirmed date for delivery. It seems all Sony AV equipment is extremely hard to find the more expensive 7A system (about £100 more) is also unavailable.
The only people who have any in stock are the likes of Currys and Dixons who want full RRP. No cheaper internet seller I have found has any !!

Go to the Sony web site, and click on the Philippines. Look up the HTK215. The specs confirm that it is DTS, and I can only assume that it is the same as the UK spec unit.

I am currently waiting on Unbeatable for one of these units. They tell me that they are come in in dribbs and drabs. I am No37 in a cue of about 60 people.

Apparenty Sony UK have none of these and also more expensive units. I feel that they are being upfront with me, as I have tried other online companies, and they tell me at least 2 months. I have also tried a number of large Agos stores, and they too have no stock. . . Doesn`t stop me chomping at the bit.

Could it be a licensing issue?

Any manufacturer can build and sell a DTS compliant player, but if you want to put the DTS logo on the front and advertise the fact that it`s DTS compatible, you have to pay a licensing fee. I`ve heard of players having "hidden" DTS before (Wharfedale 750 for example), probably for similar reasons.

There is a DTS logo on the 215 but it`s not very big. Don`t know why they don`t advertise the fact though as it`s a great selling point.
