Widescreen telly for an utter n00b with a £500 max budget?
Hi guys.
I`ve not posted on here for ages. I`ve been busy, what can I say?
My girlfriend and I are looking at getting a decent widescreen TV. Our budget isn`t the biggest but we were hoping if some kind souls in here could give a few suggestions to us about what TV we could pick up for around £400 (£500 absolute max).
We can`t afford to pay for the telly in one lump sum so we need someone who could sell it on a 1 year payment scheme or similar.
I would b quite happy to look at a few pictures online and listen to a few recommendations but my girlfriend would like to be able to go toa shop and see the TV in person before she buys. so if you can suggest a shop to look at the TV before we buy (even if we weren`t actually going to buy it from that shop) it would be a big bonus.
I`ve had a look through the last few weeks posts and can`t seem to find anything matching the above.
I know there`s lot up there but if someone could make some helpful suggestions, we would both be most grateful.
Cheers.

Powerhouse sell a 32 inch Bush for £420 and a 32 inch Mitishubishi for £480. I don`t know how good they are but you can pay for a television from them interest free over 10 months.

The only real bargain at your price-point would be a Philips 6006. An impressive performer which reproduces DVD`s in a very `natural` way and the test data from reviews puts many designer sets to shame (absolutely no ghosting or tizzing). Another advantage is that the geometry of the sets is unusually consistent (in terms of the screen arc and on a case-by-case basis). The screen itself is slightly curved, but it`s infinitely preferable to most of the current `flat` offerings because they tend to come with some interesting kinks and bends. You could easily afford a Goodmans/Bush/Black Diamond etc, but I`m sure you`d be disappointed with the performance and it wouldn`t be long before you regretted your tight-fistedness!.

Thanks for the tips. It`s not that I`m being tight-fisted. It`s the fact that I`ve not got a lot of money to throw around and my last decent telly (a second hand 24" 4:3 telly) blew up a short time ago so I`ve got a little 14" which is next to useless for watching DVD or pretty much anything on.
I`ve looked at the philips 6006 and I`m shopping around for prices. Cheers.
UPDATE- I found a 28" 6006 on the comet website. They do interest free finance deals. The price is £474.13. Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper?

I`ve seen the Philips 28pw6006 at unbeatable.co.uk for
£319.99 (without stand) or £379.99 (with stand)
I don`t know about their finance deals though, but ring them and ask.

I had a wander down the shops today to look at some tellies in person. The Philips 6006 looks very nice. I am tempted to go for the 32" version, which if I shop online is pretty much the same price as the 28" in the shops! Works out around £475 total with stand. I`m going to ring up a few places during the week and see what sort of financing they do.
