Philips 32PW6515 is it any good?

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Monday, 18th February 2002, 12:33

I`m after a new TV for my bedroom and this Philips looks like a good choice. I`ve seen it for £648 at unbeatable.co.uk without a stand which is slightly over my budget but as its a 32inch TV I prepared to pay that little bit extra.

Has anyone got any good/bad experiences with this TV or know where I can buy it cheaper.

Thanks in advance,
r8sso

I don`t think you`ll go wrong with this tv, Every review I`ve read says it`s
a top quality set, I`ve seen one in Curry`s and it`s one of the neatest sets.

1st class picture, It has 1 RGB scart & a 2nd scart, supports NTSC playback and has several picture modes, I think unbeatable sell it
for £740 inc stand & vat, It`s over £950 on the high street, I`ve been
looking for a tv for weeks and it`s currently my favourite

I`d be very careful if I were you because the 6515 range has its fair share of pit-falls. It all depends on which production batch your set comes from, but there have been numerous reports of bad geometry (fish-bowl effects etc) and processing errors like blocky artifacts and red/black lines appearing briely after a sudden change in contrast. Not in every case obviously, but it`s common enough to cause concern.
Just make sure you buy it from somewhere with good after-sales service because you MIGHT need to return it (better to be safe than sorry). The reviews for TV`s rarely highlight the set-specific flaws like this. There are Sony sets with scrolling bar issues and a variety of others with moire/patterning issues, but you`re unlikely to find these things out from reviews.

Banksy,

What other TVs have you come across since you`ve been looking that I may be interested in?

Thanks.

Heres my findings from either reviews or actually seeing them in shops

Panasonic TX28PL1 and TX32PL1
Hitachi C28WF530N - Nicam 2RGB !! £579
Hitachi C28WF532N - Prologic 2RGB !! £599
Hitachi C28WF535N & C32WF535N - Dolby 2RGB £625 / £850

I`m avoiding any 100Hz tv`s unless they are Sony cos the ones I`ve seen
flicker like a god damned stobe, Sony seem like they are in a different
class for 100Hz expecially the new DRC-MF 100 sets but u pay a price for these

I think the Philips 6515 is the one I`d get, Hitachi is great for having 2 RGB and fantastic images, just the finish & stand aren`t as nice as philips in my opinion
Panasonic looks great, having spoken to staff in shops they all say
philips has better picture

It`s a minefield...............
