Help Required With S-Video Output From Grundig Sky Digibox

It has an S-Video ouput next to the audio L/R RCA outputs, I know I can buy a directionable cable which has S-Video/2 RCA at one end leading into Scart at the other to plug into my S-Video Scart on tv, Question is I only have 2 options in the Grundig`s picture menu for video output, namely PAL and RGB, Which do I choose ? or is it that once I`ve connected the cable to the S-Video output that a third option appears called S-Video ?

Dont want to spend £25+ on cable unless I know it`ll work and produce better images than Scart composite

RE: DTS / Dolby 5.1 amplifier

Sony model something475 for £199 from www.richersounds.com, it`s RRP is or was £450

Presently using SCART from the "TV labelled SCART" on sky box to tv

If I unplug this SCART and use the above S-Video cable will my ouput automatically ouput S-Video ? only settings on sky box are PAL & RGB

Anyone Seen NEW JVC Widesceen Range In Shops Yet ????

New range look fantastic, Seens pics in mags etc, Dixons supposed to be selling some now, All have 3 scart - not sure how many RGB
28" nicam £599
28" pro £649
32" of above £849 / £899

Anyone see them please let me know where.............

Sharing TV`s 1 RGB Scart Between DVD & Sky Digibox - Worth It ?

Since I can`t find a tv that I like that has 3 Scart (2 RGB) it looks like having to purchase one with 2 Scart (1 RGB) and therefore buy a Scart switch. I have a Tosh 210E multiregion, About to buy a 50Hz flat 28" or 32" widescreen tv.

Decision is do I share the RGB Scart between DVD & Sky OR have DVD dedicated to RGB and share Sky & VCR with the non RGB Scart ?

I`d read somewhere that the benefits of RGB with Sky aren`t as much as with DVD, Is this true ?

I want to buy a really good fully wired 21 pin Scart (eg QED, Ixos etc) and therefore would would need 3 of these at £40+ each if I was to go down the sharing RGB route to connect via Scart switch - Question Do you lose performance when going via a Scart switch ? (Theoretically you do, but to the human eye ??????)

If the answer to this is yes and/or the benefits of RGB Sky are marginal at best then I`d rather simply buy video only RGB cable direct between DVD & RGB Scart and then share the non RGB Scart between Sky & VCR

Anyone tried this or doing this ? Suggestions & Help please................

RE: 28PW6006 Vs 28PW6515

Must have stopped the offer, Used to be on website & in their adverts in the mags such as what hi-fi, what tv etc,etc

As for 6006, If it was a flat screen I`d get it, Suppose I`m being silly but personally I just can`t get a non flat screen, However if your not fussed then it`s a brilliant set.

RE: 28PW6006 Vs 28PW6515

The 6006 has been reviewed several times in the last 2-3 weeks in various mags, It`s got a very good reputation, Picture & sound very good, especially colour & contrast, also good sound.
www.hispek.com have it for £399 inc stand, vat & delivery AND includes FREE £120 Philips VCR !!

I`m avoiding the 6515, Personally I think it`s a liability

RE: Philips 28 inch 6515 - Couple of questions

www.unbeatable.co.uk £555ish + £27 delivery
www.hispek.com £550ish free delivery
Currys / Dixons etc £628 in store

This set was my fav but too many people having too many geometry & artefacts issues, not worth the hastle - look elsewhere

JVC got some new sets out this week + Check Panasonic 28PL1

RE: philipd dvd recorder ? info ?

latest what hi-fi mag has a big review

RE: RGB sockets

Iain
Hitachi have some, They are flat screen, 3 scart (2 RGB) and support NTSC playback, have all the auto/manual wide modes etc

C28WF530N 28" Nicam
C28WF532N As above but virtual dolby surround
C28WF535N As the 532N but with onboard dolby 5.1 decoding
C32WF535N 32" version of 28 535N above

The 32 535N was featured in a group test in a mag approx 2 mths ago
and it got excellent review for pic & sound (it equalled the acclaimed Philips 6515 model)
Curry`s sell the 28" 532 instore for £599, however they have a special
on-line price of £489 inc vat & del to your door !!!! www.currys.co.uk
Take a look at one in your local Curry`s, they are very attractive inc nice stand, very flat look with great pic, A joke of a price at £489
www.unbeatable.co.uk sell the same model for £550ish
The 32" model is arround £750ish if you can find one online, Otherwise it`s £950ish at Currys
It`s the only "cheap" tv I`ve found that has 2 RGB`s, The Hitachi website www.hitachi.co.uk has just been revised and has pics and you can download the full user manuals, I`ve got the brochure which clearly states they ALL have 2 RGB and support NTSC

Does Argos`s 3 Way Scart Switch Support RGB Input & Output ?

Also what`s the quality / loss of signal quality like ? I`ll need a DVD and Sky Digibox sharing my TV`s 1 RGB Scart, Intend using 3 IXOS flat fully wired RGB cables
£9.75 sounds too good to be true, Are there any others available elsewhere ?

RE: 28 inch Widescreen/Flatscreen TV, 550 and under

Hitachi 532N 28" virtual dolby, flat 50hz, stand, 3 scart, 2 RGB
normally £599, Curry`s online special price £488 inc free delivery inc weekends !! at no extra costs, £488 for this tv is a v good deal
excellent picture, sound & 2 RGB`s, gets good reviews

RE: Decision Time - Philips 28PW6515 or Panasonic TX28PL1 ????????????

Thanks guys.............Not sure what to do now, Quite informative that
Cheers

Why Don`t Magazine Reviews Tell You About Geometry / Tube Problems ?

Thanks to the guys who replied to my earlier post on which tv set to purchase, Sounds like the Philips 6515 sets have some commonly known issues with geometry, It`s not the first time it`s been mentioned on this very forum

Gripe - Why do I have to find out from forums ? Why don`t the mags from the high street tell you, It kinda makes reviews totally meaningless in the real world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Decision Time - Philips 28PW6515 or Panasonic TX28PL1 ????????????

Which set is the best for picture quality and/or reliability ? Sound not important
Both have 2 scarts, 1 RGB
Think only feature difference is that the Philips has a zoom mode whereby you can stretch a 4:3 image to 16:9 by pressing and holding a button until you reach the disired size

If anyone owns either of these sets I`d like to hear your comments on what you think of your purchase before I part with my money............

Anyone Aware Of NEW Philips PixelPlus TV`s ?????

Just read a couple of articles in some mags in WH-Smiths re. Philips bringing out a new matchline range of 50Hz & 100Hz sets using their new `pixelplus` technology..........They claim it doubles resolution from any source and gives near HDTV quality images, It`s suggested that if Philip`s claims are true then they will provide images on par on in excess of Sony`s DRC-MF 100Hz sets
Lookout in upcoming mags....some sets are available this month, Don`t know prices

RE: 28 inch Widescreen/Flatscreen TV, 550 and under

Also checkout Hitachi CW530N £579 from Curry`s inc stand
Unlike Panny & Philips it has 3 SCARTS, 2 of which are RGB
Great flat picture, nice stand, nice quality set in a "silvery" finish

RE: Philips 32PW6515 is it any good?

Heres my findings from either reviews or actually seeing them in shops

Panasonic TX28PL1 and TX32PL1
Hitachi C28WF530N - Nicam 2RGB !! £579
Hitachi C28WF532N - Prologic 2RGB !! £599
Hitachi C28WF535N & C32WF535N - Dolby 2RGB £625 / £850

I`m avoiding any 100Hz tv`s unless they are Sony cos the ones I`ve seen
flicker like a god damned stobe, Sony seem like they are in a different
class for 100Hz expecially the new DRC-MF 100 sets but u pay a price for these

I think the Philips 6515 is the one I`d get, Hitachi is great for having 2 RGB and fantastic images, just the finish & stand aren`t as nice as philips in my opinion
Panasonic looks great, having spoken to staff in shops they all say
philips has better picture

It`s a minefield...............

RE: Philips 32PW6515 is it any good?

I don`t think you`ll go wrong with this tv, Every review I`ve read says it`s
a top quality set, I`ve seen one in Curry`s and it`s one of the neatest sets.

1st class picture, It has 1 RGB scart & a 2nd scart, supports NTSC playback and has several picture modes, I think unbeatable sell it
for £740 inc stand & vat, It`s over £950 on the high street, I`ve been
looking for a tv for weeks and it`s currently my favourite

Gripes About RGB & Component Video

Why is it that not all the latest widescreen tv`s do not have 3 scarts with 2 RGB ? Even some of the latest expensive Sony`s costing over £1200 have only 1 RGB ! And if it`s a well known fact that component video is superior to scart RGB why do only Tosh include them, and on tv`s costing as little as £600ish ?

Also why does an expensive RGB fully wired 21 pin scart cable deliver better images & sound when the actual scart sockets on dvd`s & tv`s are basic spec interfaces without gold connections etc, etc, surely the inferior quality of such sockets cancels out any improvements with the cable, an analogy is like putting clean water into dirty water & expecting cleaner water out..........!!!

Which £600 Widescreen To Compliment Toshiba SD-210E Multi Region ?

I`ve got arround £600 to spend :-
Only want 50Hz, Must support NTSC, Have 2 SCARTS (1 RGB)
Sound not important - got dolby pro-logic hi-fi
Using IXOS fully wired SCART, IXOS RCA & speaker cables
Must have a nice non-bulky stand

Do you recommend a 28" flatscreen or 32" non-flat screen ?

I`ve spent weeks reading reviews in mags & checking web prices

Good sets in this price range seem to be :-

Philips 28" & 32" PW6006`s (non-flat) £399 / £589
Philips 28PW6515 (flat) £589
Panasonic TX28PL1 (flat) £550
ALL with stands

I`d rather have 32" than 28" BUT ONLY if the picture is not noticeably
poorer & I can`t afford a pure flat 32" anyway

Anyone got any of the above tv`s ? Advice greatly appreciated
