Digital 5.1 and NTL Digital

David Bell (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 25th February 2002, 13:06

Hi all,
I have just this last week connected up my Sony HTK215 amp, and well please I am too. However, I am a little confused as to the usage with my Digi Box from NTL. I would have thought that it would have been capable of passing on a digital signal to my amp. But it would appear not as there are only phono connections and a few computer links. So I con only listen in Dolby Pro Logic. Disappointing.

Whilst I`m here. Any thoughts as to which is the better connection to my DVD, optical/digital or 5.1

If anyone has any comments on either of these subjects, I`d love to here from you.

Dave

Hi Dave, the only way you will get dolby digital 5.1 other than dvd or laserdisc is sky plus!
I guess you mean optical or coaxial or 5.1.
As far as a digtal siganl goes it does`nt make any difference whether you use optical or coaxial!

That was quick gingerone.

My amp will accept either optical or 5.1 (ie. 3 sets of RCA/phono). So my question was, which of these options is preferable?

Optical for dvd and the phonos for ntl!
Hope this helps!
