Will you buy 4K Blu-ray?

RJS (undefined) posted this on Sunday, 7th September 2014, 08:27

So, it looks like the first 4K players will show up in 2016. And yes, some studios didn't keep 4K masters and will have to upscale, which will make some of us moan probably:

Back when VHS was replaced by DVD I did the huge job of replacing my collection, Well most of them cause some of the VHS stuff was never released on DVD.
When Blu-Ray came along I was just happy to watch my movies up scaled, I have bought about 12 Blu-Rays but I still look at the DVD versions of movies when buying because of a price point I guess as but also if I'm honest I don't watch many of them after the initial viewing (as my wife likes to remind me).
So as far as 4K Blu-ray .............. count me out.

I'll say the same thing I said about Blu-ray. I don't think my house is big enough to support a screen large enough to reveal the difference. And this time I mean it!

It'll probably mean more crappy region coding, and discs full to brim with java guff that will have the players chugging like Thomas the Tank Engine. Include me out. I love HD image and sound, but I hate Blu-ray for the sheer studio and manufacturer enforced crap that I have to put up with. I've reached my limit on that now. Another technology with potentially more of that. No thanks!

My vote for when they're under £75 was on the assumption that once they reach that price point they'll be the only option.

Not for me, but then the only Blu-Rays I own are PS3 games. Never bought a single BD film.

Each to their own, I fought off blu-ray for ages but overall I prefer the picture quality.  I don't like lots of grain on films but others do, whereas I quite like the colour corrections done on some films whereas others don't.

All about opinions...

Having spent a fortune going from VHS tape to DVD, there is no way I would buy a Blue ray disc. I think that's why there has never been a big market for it, as people are fed up with changing formats every 10 years or so.

I have also seen a Blue ray film at my friends house and thought it was a very (very) long time loading up. Though I do give in the picture quality is superior, but still do not think it is worth all the cost to upgrade my collection of films.

'Course, don't get me wrong, I can clearly see the difference. I think for me the thing is not buying into any more disc formats. I ripped a lot of my DVD's and subscribed to Netflix, and having media in this fashion suits me. I really like Netflix and I do feel studios ought to play better with it instead of fighting it. A fair priced and easy-going subscription is the way forward to making it easier to buy content rather than getting it off a bloke in the pub imho.

Let's be honest if a film is that good it doesn't matter if it's on VHS,DVD,Blu-ray or 4K ?
