I think what Gareth is meaning is that 3D in cinema has been an expensive gimmick, and only useful in most films for things jumping out at you for a few seconds.

The last film I saw where it did look real good and used a lot of 3D to good effect was Avatar, but since then I have only paid to see 2D films as basically it is cheaper for a ticket than the 3D equivalent.

It was a pointless exercise, with the manufacturer seeming to forget that not everyone sits down in from of their TV every time to watch the same movie more than once. I like to put a film on but not necessarily watch it from start to finish. 3D movies pin you down, and there's only so many times you can watch the same film without losing interest. An expensive gimmick that only certain sections of society can afford

I've seen films where it's done well, I've seen films where it's done badly, given the choice at the cinema, I see the 3d version, a lot of other ppl do the same.

However, I'm not sure if I'd embrace it at home, when I bought this TV (42" Panasonic plasma, cost about £1000!!!), the closest quality set, but with 3d, was a Sony which was nearly twice the price, I wasn't allowed to spend that, which on retrospect is probably a good thing ;)

I can accept that it hasn't caught on at home, I guess everyone is waiting for glasses-less 3d at home.

Funny things is, I may never see the handful of 3d DVDs and Blu Rays I've got in 3d at home now!

last time i watched a 3d film on the box i think was in the 80's and probably when Channel4 started up, i made my glasses usuing quality street wrappers the Blue Peter way...

And just for admars, i actually find myself listenening tothe radio more now that watching the tv, and as i use the intereb at work all day, i use that less at home... with the wife and kids constantly plugged in, i am am contemplating closing Wifi down at 5pm, they might actually talk then?

I think you'll find that closing wifi at 5pm is child abuse nowadays, just sayin'
