Page 1 of New TV time - advice please
Hardware Forum
Next week I'm investing in a new TV. Going from a very old 32" LG full HD non-smart TV to a shiny new LG 49UH668V Smart 4K beastie.
I've been with Sky since they sent the first Astra satellite up in '89, but as I only have the entertainment package, I'm peeved that I now pay £38 a month for it!
So I'm considering cancelling the contract with Sky and moving over to Now TV which has the important channels for me, and just for £6.99 a month.
But I understand Now TV only outputs 720P. So who can tell me how that will look on my new telly? Will it be upscaled at all? Will it look fuzzy or pixelated on a 49 inch screen? And most importantly, will those dragons still look amazing when Game of Thrones returns?
All advice gratefully received.
Still alive and kicking. You can't get rid of me that easily!
Should be no problem with a smart TV, as it can stream direct off the internet in realtime without buffering, ( as long as you have a decent fast speed broadband in your area).
I also packed in Sky 18 months ago after three price hikes in a quick row. But they had been on to me a lot to rejoin at half price for a year, so took them on again, specifically for Westworld and for this seasons Game of thrones. Once the year is up I will cancel Sky again, as they are far too greedy.
RE: New TV time - advice please
That's my point really. I can watch both of those for £6.99 a month via Now TV, but am I sacrificing quality?

It has to be upscaled or it will be in a box with black borders.. :)
Isn't lots of Sky HD 720P? Either way, I've watched 720P stuff on my TV and it looks amazing. If the box 'only' outputs 720P then the TV will do the scaling and it depends on its scaling abilities.
As long as you're not sitting on top of the TV, I'd say most would be hard put to tell any difference..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Of course the picture fits the screen so it is upscaled. Sorted. Bye Sky, Now TV is the future for me!

You might want to check if it is the same, but at one point only the Apple TV would stream NowTV in HD, not even their own boxes did it. One of the reasons I have never taken them up on the free NowTv box they keep offering me.
EDIT: Looks like it is all streaming boxes now plus consoles etc. But only in 720P

Edit2: Or maybe not. Depends what you watch, whether live or not and which device according to this thread.

I have a 50" Samsung 4K and it upscales the image well enough from what they supply.

The difference between SD and 720p is huge, I think 720p to 1080p is a lot less (in fact quite a lot of TV is broadcast in 1080i) and for a fair few things you won't notice the difference.
All HDMI TVs will upscape automatically.

Now that sounds interesting.
Is Now as cheap as it sounds for sports (6.98 per month)

No, Snaps. The Entertainment Pass is £6.99 a month. The Sports Pass is £6.99 a DAY, or £33.99 a month.
