Page 1 of Connection problems - help needed!
Hardware Forum
Hello everybody,
new to these forums and already a problem. A minor one possibly, but still one driving me mad.
With many experts visiting here, I hope somebody can help.
Today I received a b-tech XV21R 1M5 (RGB compatible) scart to
scart ribbon lead from beyondhifi.com to upgrade my DVD player to TV connection (Pioneer 444K to Philips 24PW 6005). The Pioneer has only one scart socket (RGB compatible as written in manual), while the Philips has two, of which I used EXT 1, which is for RGB connections.
However, the picture I get is terribly distorted, as if a channel is not properly tuned in with wavy lines and rolling through the screen from top to bottom, as if fine-tuning is needed.
Only problem is, there is no menu option for making changes to the AV connections on the Philips and with scart that wouldn`t benecessary anyway, I`d say.
I have set the player to RGB output in the setup and as written, used the right scart socket.
Just for the record, it works fine with a composite to scart connection, different lead though (cheaper one from Maplin Electronics).
I`m completely lost here, has anybody similar experiences, or any suggestions to solve this?
Help is very much appreciated, thanx in advance!
RE: Connection problems - help needed!
Is the ribbon lead fully wired for RGB ?
RE: Connection problems - help needed!
Yes, that`s what it says on the box and on the beyondhifi web-site ("RGB & SVHS compatible"), also to my experience with a non - RGB lead you normally don`t get a pic at all, but not a twisted, messed up one.
So, I don`t think that`s the cause, but thanx anyway.
Somebody got any further advice?

My BTech ribbon certainly works very well with RGB. Have you tried running it into the other scart socket on the tv (maybe setting to svideo on the DVD player)?
RE: Connection problems - help needed!
No, I didn`t, it says in the manual that EXT 2 is for s-video, but doesn`t carry RGB signals and if that`s the case it would be of little use.
I could give it a try when I get home tonight though.

Just a Thought, but, it`s not the MACRO kicking in..is it?
Or is the scart lead a `Proper` straight lead..OR a reverse one (connections reversed .from one end to the other) used for other aplications.

RE: Connection problems - help needed!
Well, macrovision is disabled by the retailer (HCH) on this player.
But I can`t make anything of the straight/reversed scart lead thing you suggest.
It doesn`t say anything about that on the package or the online retailer web-site. Where would I find info on this?
Or Could you maybe give some more detail? Would that mean it is not usable for a player/TV connection?
Thanx very much!
RE: Connection problems - help needed!
If it`s a bog standard scart cable that should be fine. But some scart leads alter the cables between the two ends for other applications.
If you connect the Pioneer 444 direct to the TV is that OK, if so, I would wonder if the Macro was working.

RE: Connection problems - help needed!
It goes straight into the TV, so even if macrovision was on it shouldn`t interfere here.
Guess all I can do is try another lead, but it`s actually rather difficult to find decent ones, that`s why I thought a b-tech is the one to go for, hearing only positive things about them.

"No, I didn`t, it says in the manual that EXT 2 is for s-video, but doesn`t carry RGB signals and if that`s the case it would be of little use"
- I meant to try it in socket 2 on the svideo setting from the DVD. On our old tele the scart sockets didn`t seem to be labelled the right way round which caught me out at first, so it might be worth trying both output types on both sockets. You`ll get there!
