Preferring 3 year old interface to a 7 year old one is no surprise is it?
I think the current Sammy one is the best tbh. Sony Android one can be a bit slow and buggy.

Oh one thing I really hate about my main Samsung TV... the "Help" button on the remote which is in a totally stupid easy to hit place. And it takes ages to load, and then close.

Could be worse, could be the Netflix button, always above the top arrow button on my Panasonic and Sony remotes. The main cause of profanity in my house.

RE: [VIDEO] I think I need a new tv
I bought an LG HD Smart TV from my son as he decided to upgrade from 43" to 50", so I finally not only moved into 4k territory but also in-TV apps.
I've found it quite a nice transition as it means I now rarely use my Fire box and was able to give my Now TV stick to someone in more need of it than me.
Really impressed with the picture quality, even on upscaled older programming.
My only real issue is the tiny size of the remote...

The LG interface has been around longer than the 3 years I've had it plus, the Sony is the newest and worst of the lot, so age really doesn't relate to a good UX experience here in my opinion.
My biggest frustration with the Samsung is when you switch it on the smart hub won't work for the first 45 seconds which seems like a small amount of time but it's infuriating. Keeps saying checking for software update and does this every time you switch it off/on. A known bug if you read the forums.

I think all TVs have awful UIs, and we are really just picking the least worst. :(
It's like Nokia mobiles :(

you're making me v glad we got given one so i can put off the pain of choosing a tv.
the gist i'm getting is, who cares about the picture quality, sound is clearly irrelevant, as they're all crap nowadays, it's all about the GUI :(your phone analogy is worryingly accurate, who cares about it's ability to be a phone as long as you can watch cats playing the piano in 4k dolby sound through 5g :(
that was the nice thing about that 2nd review video posted earlier, the budget tv just being aimed at ppl who want to plug in their tv and watch tv.
on the plus side, took the panny to the tip today, that was best tip experience ever, went to website the other day, booked my slot, turned up, guy crossed my car off his clipboard, thanked me for booking, only 2 cars in front, parked unloaded and home, all within 30 mins (it's a 5-10 mins drive each way). I've sat in a queue once i've got there for 30 mins before!Ā

I know what you mean about a good UX is a good UX etc. but a 7 year old TV didn't have to deal with all of the Apps etc. that a modern one does.
Mine does no such update checks either and is usable straight away.
I can add or move Apps anywhere along the bottom and it even controls the VM box very well.

This is true, but the thing that annoys me is they clearly are not sitting down and thinking what a user wants to do with their TV mostly, and instead "how can I cram all these features in so it looks good for marketing, and how do I promote Samsung TV things that people will pay for even though nobody is going to pay for this as they all have Netflix/Prime/Disney/AppleTV"
Mine has a manual on the TV, which you can't read whilst doing something on your TV. š¢ Why did they do this?? And trying to work out what settings menu anything is in...

I find myself in a slightly different positionĀ and considering a 4K 27" monitor.
When you live in a houseful and the others all like watching people trying to get off with each other while dancing on ice and chewing a Kangaroo's bollock you tend to watch all your films and TV in your man cave (cupboard).
