LG DVD-3350E Uncovered

IT Troll (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 25th November 2000, 22:38

Took the lid off my 3350 to compare with the Aiwa and they do sound as if they are very similar. The only obvious difference in ICs was while the Aiwa has an LG GDC25D801C 0018, the 3350 has an LG GDC25D801C 0022.

As it was a nasty rainy day I chucked a web page together showing the guts of the machine:

http://members.tripod.co.uk/ittroll/

I have also found what claims to be a method of displaying the firmware version etc. However I have not managed to get this to work on my own machine. Perhaps some other LG/clone owners would like to give it a whirl.

1. Press Set-up button on Remote controller
2. Select TV Aspect
3. Place the cursor on 16:9 wide
4. Press number button 1397139 in order

Thanks for the compliment, but I think it`s a case of style over content.

Thats a SICKENER aint it?
It looks like the Aiwa has a slightly earlier firmware than the LG. One that could play VCDs!!! Why on earth did LG remove this and charge more?

I bet you keep asking yourself that!

Yes Carrot, Troll`s artistic talents are commendable.

I doubt it Duke. As I don`t have any other LG stuff and they are not normally at the top of my shopping list - however this may now change.

That`s the SH7034 right? So what is the extra S for if it`s an HITACHI. Oh, now I understand. :-P

Has any one tried out the firmware version display yet? Can you give it a try on your Aiwa Jimbo - I promise it doesn`t do anything nasty (in fact it probably won`t do anything at all).

Regarding the display of firmware version etc:
It works on my LG, but you need to press Select after entering the code.

I get:

MODEL : LG WEST EUROPE
REGION : NO.02
NATION : GB 00
MICOM : VER1.2 20000712
SERVO : D003
MPEG : 0L40 20APR00
MISCEL : 11 A0
47 42 00 FD 10 00 00 00

I`ve no idea what half of this means, but at least there`s a couple of dates in there to compare with! How does this info compare to other players?
According to http://www.lgelectronics.co.uk/ there`s a version 1.3 from October, but the download procedure (if it applies to this model) involves specialist hardware!

Daz, thats just one little funny quirk we`ve found on the Aiwa and the LG!

Anyways, Troll, press enter after you do the code...works on the aiwa too!

VERSION DISPLAY
MODEL: AIWA EUROPE
REGION: NO. 02
NATION: GB 00

SERVO: OL40 20APR00
MISCEL: 11 A0
