Screw the TV polls, what`s the best music Video?

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Saturday, 19th February 2005, 21:24

Can`t believe Thriller got No 1 in Ch4`s poll the other week. Sure it`s got high production values, but for a vid that`s stood the test of time, I have to be a bit of a cliche and say Duran Duran`s Wild Boys always does it for me.

Bob Dylan - Subterranian Homesick Blues. Was it the first music video?

Wild Boys is such a leather clad homo-erotic fantasy im surprised Le Bon hasnt got a pushbroom `tasche and the arse cut out of his chaps.

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel on the other hand......Breathtaking.

Its one of the few vids i always watch through when im flicking the music channels

Best one for me is still Vienna by Ultravox. Directed by Russell Mulcahy (who originally wanted gondolas, thanks to his fine sense of geography...), it`s a video with a filmic quality. Also of note are the remainder of the Ultravox videos directed by band members Midge Ure and Chris Cross.

Love Wild Boys and most of the early Duran stuff, the concert film Arena expands on that theme quite nicely.

As to Gabriel, well his video`s have on occasion been technically astounding (thinking of Sledgehammer and Digging In The Dirt here...). They are magnificent, I agree, but Vienna was my intro to astounding videos and thus remains there at the top of my list.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Korn - freak on a leash, although the new My chemical romance video is very funny (Ok, so not an all time great, but one of the best I`ve seen in a while) :D

Good call on the Korn Video. In a similar vein, Evolution by Pearl Jam is pretty good.

That Korn one is good..
I missed the best music videos thing, but I would hope that Chris Cunningham was checked for - Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin and Bjork "all is full of love"
also, Spike Jonez for Sabotage (this is probably my favourite video of all time)
and Michel Gondry for the Chemical Brothers` "Let Forever Be"
Dang I miss my MTV.

"Vienna" would get my vote, closely followed by REM "Loosing My Religion". :D

or

FatBoy Slim - Weapon of Choice (Christopher Walken dancing)
