Having RAM problems and need advice.
I bought 256MB RAM to work alongside my exisiting 256MB I already had. Slotted in the RAM, booted up the computer and got an error message:
initialising device CONFIGMG
windows protection error. restart your computer
Restarted the computer in safe mode and then tried a normal restart again. This time it gets to the windows 98 loading screen and crashes.
I can`t get anywhere with the new RAM. Do you think it is damaged, or is there some other explanation I`m not aware of?
I`ve tried the new RAM by itself and the computer does absolutely nothing after I switch it on.
Thanks

Sounds like it`s shagged to me... Sorry that`s not the most technical diagnosis ever, but there`s no point in dressign it up ;)
RE: Having RAM problems and need advice.
Yeah, sounds like the RAM is faulty/damaged - I`d get it exchanged.
If you want, you can test it with a program called Memtest86 (from http://www.memtest86.com/) - this should pinpoint any faults. It runs from a bootable floppy so you don`t need to be able to boot Windows in order to use it.

RE: Having RAM problems and need advice.
windows protection error is a common error message for memory problems.
I AM NOT A LEMON, I AM A CABBAGE.

Well if it won`t work with just the new memory then its probably duff.
I assume you`ve checked the motherboard manual before selecting the relevant memory type
