Graphics Card vs Monitor

Faramir (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 13th July 2003, 18:04

Hi,

I`ve recently bought a Geforce4 MX 128MB. The card works fine and has improved both games and DVD playback. However I am having some problems with shutting down and starting up the computer. Sometimes when shutting down the shut down process freezes when the `windows is shutting down` screen appears (I am using windows98 by the way). And sometimes when starting up I switch on the computer and the monitor fails to switch on with it. It is left in standby and I have to then use the keyboard to shut the computer down `blind` as it where and try again.

Could this be an incompatibility problem with my graphics card or is it a problem with the monitor? I can`t see that the card is damaged in some way as it runs all my games and dvds fine.

Thanks

Check the card is seated ok. Sometimes an AGP card can look like it is in the slot but reseating it can solve the type of problems you are having.

Try downloading a later set of drivers than was supplied with the card - this freezing in win98 is usually down to drivers.
