My computer has recently been messing up really badly so i decided to download a virus detector to see if i had any , and it detected 6 viruses . The virus detector i downloaded though (AVG 6) was faulty and would not fix the viruses . Does any one know where i can download a free virus detector which fixes or deletes the virus ?
also what else can i do to get rid of em ! ! ! >:(
What do you mean it was faulty - AVG 6 normally does a pretty good job of detecting and removing - if it can`t remove it I think it places it in quarantine. If you are using Windows XP you have to disable System Restore using any AV software to clean your system. If you have done this and it still doesn`t work I suggest you report it to AVG as although you don`t get tech support with the free version they will still want/need to know that there is a virus that it doesn`t sort out. Other wise you can use this link for a removal tool for the viruses identified in that link. Another alternative is to use this AV product- it`s online, always up to date and free.

When will people learn.....
You want stupid ? My sisters computer was infected by a virus on a disc from a friend of her husband. This friend had a virus checker still in its box as he hadn`t got round to installing it. I told my sister to never let any discs from his computer near her machine again and bought her a virus checker just in case.

For past 2 days my computer will not download the latest update from AVG(free). Get message about server mismatch and to contact Grisoft. Once it actually came up on screen that download was proceeding and the update was installing but immediately after that it was back to Virus Database is out of date. BTW I`m Windows 98(Yes I know I`m a dinosaur). Anyone got any ideas what problem may be?
Thanks Pete
No, but if you got to the website you can manually download updates. It tells you wehre to place them in the directories and then when you run the AVG system it install the updates.
First port of call,
START, RUN, MSCONFIG --> Disable anything that does not need to run at startup. The viruses on Windows Machines exploit the fact you can set them to start on...erm well startup. Disable the uneeded - if your not sure search in http://www.google.com for the name of the startup item. Usually you can itentify what it is from this. Restart the machine when prompted.
Next open you virus scan and run that again. If it can`t remove them then be sure that they are not running. Ctrl, Alt, Del and look at what is running.
If not might I suggest you purchase a copy of the superb Norton Antivirus, or at least a trial version from their web site :)
Need any help mail me here!

In relation to the first post on this thread, avg would not have been faulty, it`s simply a lot more difficult to remove an entrenched virus once it`s installed itself as it will write over some folders that connot be removed easily it`s like locking the gate after the horse has bolted, in short kiddes prevention is better than cure.
I AM NOT A LEMON, I AM A CABBAGE.
Doesnt AVG move viruses to a virus vault and delete it from there?
On the topic of viruses, was reading somewhere that one day last month 174 new viruses were detected knocking about. In the last couple of weeks ive had 5 emails a day with the Klez virus attached, dont these idiots have anything else better to do?
